To Majorca

2 May 2008: Today was a Friday and was the day of the beginning of our 26th honeymoon. The 25th one to Brazil was probably the most expensive by far having realised a few days back that Raakhee was pregnant :) Today was another busy travel start with our plan including a full day at work and a late night flight to Palma De Majorca (pronounced as Mayorka) or often referred to as Mallorca. Majorca is an Spanish holiday island about 200 miles East of mainland Spain. It is the largest of the Span...

Porto Alcudia

3 May 2008 We spent time lazying around till 11 and the spent the next half hour in our balcony eating some of the snacks that we had carried as we had missed the hotel breakfast between 8 and 10. The next hour was spent getting ready to go out and eventually we stepped out at 12. This was the first time that we really saw how spectacular our hotel was. There were palm trees all around the place and lots of sun decks to allow people to sun bathe. There were 2/3 pools of various lengths and sh...

... of local wine and a tankard of beer at a street café overlooking the ocean and yacht basin – some of the boats in the 100 foot and up length. Then we walked down the road along the harbour until we found a bus stop and made our way back to the ship. On the way, we found a duty free shop and bought bottles of wine and champagne. Liquor on board the ship is not included and we thought we couldn’t even bring ...

Dancing in Palma

... everyone who’s coming aboard. So, whoever was on duty had raised the passarelle and had now gone inside. There are other boats around so I can’t just yell out until I get someone’s attention so I was stuck. I could either find a phone and call, return to the club, or just wait. There was a bench nearby so I sat down and just waited for about 20 minutes until I heard someone. I yelled out the names of a few people that I thought may be on ...

Another idylic Hollywood set

We arrived in Cala de Calobra around 5:30. We anchored in the small bay and took a tender to shore. The little village has a small pier along one side of a steep hill and the village is crowded on the hillside raising between two much larger and steeper hills. The whole thing looks like some Hollywood set because of its idyllic setting on the small bay. There are several bars and restaurants where we got drinks and ate an early dinner.

Watersports on the Bahai de Pollença

We left Ciutadella around 8 AM to cross back over to Mallorco and into the Bahai de Pollença. It is a deep cut and large protected bay on the northwest corner of the island. We anchored out in the bay, away from other boats and the crew setup everything for watersports. Since everyone was more spread out and busy with different ...

More Beaches!

I take a bus to the other side of Palma where there are some small, pretty beaches. Finding them is a little tricky but they are pretty, for city beaches and have a much more Spanish orientation. Some really nice beaches are supposed to be available but I lack the time to work them in (it is large island with slow transit).

My roommate and I go out for the night in Palm central. We walk around and find a little place on a side street ...

Old Town

... afternoon at the beach back in Playa de Palma. It is so nice to have warm weather with sun. Quite a contrast from Scandinavia. This is an area full of German tourists. Mostly Spring break atmosphere. Apparently it is dominated by package deals. I have seen very few other nationalities here. As an indication, at the airport, Air Berlin dominated the airlines (even though this is Spain it is not Iberia or SpanAir).

Beachs and Sun!

... In order to make the weight limit, I take all the really dense stuff like books, electronics … and put them into my day bag which I sling over 1 shoulder to make it look light (there is a weight limit on carry on too which I am way, way over). I also have a shopping bag packed full of stuff. I am right at the weight limit but make it.

At the airport I see my first Starbucks which has $6 for a large brewed coffee. Never-the-less, most people have one.

I am ...
