... lunch). Chiesa di Santa Lucia al Sepolcro has the first Caravaggio painting I've seen outside of a museum, and it's beautiful. Unfortunately, no photos allowed. We visit the Duomo which is built on top of the ancient Temple of Minerva. Finally we see Apollo's Temple, built in 600 BC, which seems oddly out of place in the city center.

... pear trees. I'm able to enjoy all of the bounty from his garden including homemade wine with every meal and heaps of the best olive oil I've ever tasted. Not surprisingly, Marta is an excellent cook, preparing every meal with simple, healthy and local ingredients.I may even be able to replicate the nightly minestra- usually made with beans which are pureed and then served with tiny pasta, topped with copious amounts of olive oil. Delicious.

... We We walk up to the crater and the landscape is so barren, practically nothing grows here. Because of the low cloud, there isn't even a view of Catania below. We don't stay long at all. Part 1 - Rome to Sicily
