Via Marconi 67/A, Poggibonsi Syracuse, Sicily, Italy, 53036, 39-(0)577-93-75-01
After our stay in Siracusa, we drove to Agrigento, on the south coast of sicily. Stunningly beautiful blue sky and blue Mediterranean waters set off the sight of magnificent Greek Temples onthe ridges overlooking the bay. Built in the period of around 565 BC these beautiful structures have withstood the ravages of invasions by Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Normans ...
Agrigenta, Sicily, Italy, Sicily, Italy mandjcannOur trip itenerary took us next to Ortigia, the oldest paart of Siracusa. Our hotel was situated on a narrow street, barely wide enough to drive a car. Hotel Gargallo was in an old building, but inside it had been renovated and modern accommodations were a delight. We met relatives there, whom we had not ...
Syracuse, Sicily, Italy, Sicily, Italy mandjcann... Giardini-Naxos in northern Sicily -- though still southern Italy. And yes Stacey, I did repeat that from our IM chat. I liked the sound of it. :)

Anna and I had a few more adventures before she dropped me off at the bus stop. We were running late so she kept taking 'short cuts'. But the Italian drivers already are gutsy and insane, so running late and weaving in and out of half-roads, half-who know whats was pretty amazing. But we made it.

What a way to mark a birthday!
Catania, Sicilia, Italy hotelalbaWe began our trip in Rome, where it was rainy and crowded. Our day at Vatican city, the museum, the Sistine Chapel and St Peter's Basilica was just wonderful. Our hotel was near the Pantheon, and Piazza Navona, a great location for seeing the top sights of Rome. On Friday we were scheduled to fly to Sicily. A labor strike stalled every type of transport to the airport: trains, buses ...
Syracuse, Sicily, Italy, Sicily, Italy mandjcann... close my tray table for take-off and returned with a 2" stack of napkins. But, it all worked out, I had the best in-flight meal of my life and a ridiculous tale to boot. I'm such a flipping idiot.

I recognize the juxtaposition of the first paragraph, "She just talks and talks and talks" and the previous paragraph of me talking and talking. Catania, Sicilia, Italy massimobbWith our bus leaving at 11.30 to Catania we decided to get one more arancini and do one last sweeping tour of the market, that move nearly cost us our seat, OK we were the last ones to get a seat but we didn't get to sit together, mind you we didn't have to stand for the 3 hour journey, so things could have been a lot worse.

Catania is a laid back city, much of it is constructed from the black lava which poured down the mountain and engulfed the ...
Catania, Sicily, Italy dinoshonaI really wanted to see the Greek ruins at Siracusa. Unfortunately, it was a Sunday at noontime when we finally made it to the historical center of Siracusa, which meant all the families were heading out for Sunday lunch. Since it was Carnevale season, it was probably busier than normal and there was a big festival on the waterfront. All the kids were dressed in their Carnevale ...
Syracuse, Sicily, Italy amboughAncient Theatres and Heavy Italian Donuts Even though it wasn't convenient, we wanted to visit Siracusa's sea side old town and famed Greco-Roman Ruins. Neither of these attractions disappointed. The old town of Siricusa is on an island in the shape of a "thumbs down" fist. As such it jets out in to the sea allowing wonderful ocean views. It was on our walks to the old town we discovered two new Italian experiences of a crushing magnitude: the ...
