The drive to Toulouse didn't have the mountainous Alps scenery like italy, but there were beautiful sunflower fields all along the highway which were just as fun to look at. I was getting excited to leave France soon though, because I got sick of trying to navigate the language and I feel bad for the French people who don't know much English …

... I was seated next to a Chinese man who had spread his legs across both leg spaces. By gentle nudging I was able to get him to move over and he nodded off. He opened the overhead compartment to retrieve his hand luggage and I was overwhelmed by this disgusting odour. ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Albert 1er Toulouse
The good reviews from other tripadvisers encouraged me to reserve this hotel. It is a true 2 star hotel: small but clean and relatively modern. Well located for shopping and restaurants. Be careful of the hot water when taking a shower, it tends to have a sudden change of temperature. Breakfast is ok, wish they have a toaster as the bread is pretty tough. The hotel staff I met were friendly, efficient and helpful. However, it didn't start out very good as I had to do some juggling with the reservation. When I called to make a reservation, it seems there was only 1 room available at the price of 103 euros and the heavy accented Frenchman won't accept my little dog. So I checked the web and found that I can book a room at 55 euros through a reservation service, plus small animals are allowed. I called the hotel again and this time a lady replied : the price of the "only available" room is 75 euros and my little dog is accepted. Of course I went through the web and got my room for 55 euros. In fact, I learned that there were actually 4 rooms of 75 euros available, I stayed in one of them. So, it's who you deal with that matters. By the way, I didn't meet that heavy accented Frenchman, wouldn't say it was a loss.
A very good hotel. Excelent for the price. Rated as a two stars, but deserves three. I have been there several times (let's say between 30 and 40..., between 2002 and now, 2006) for business. The hotel is cheap, very very well located (near the Place du Capitole and the Place Wilson, which are central points in Toulouse). The people in charge of the hotel are very kind and helpful. Most rooms are really nice. The bathrooms are amazingly clean and nice in most rooms. And if you visit them several times, they will keep your preferences and try to give you a room that you like. Actually, when I learned that I would have to stay many times in Toulouse I decided to try different hotels (around 10), discussed the topic with taxi drivers, got recommandations for the Albert 1er, went there, and basically always came back there (except when they have no more rooms).
This was EXCELLENT value for our money. It was clean, VERY quiet, well located and the staff were helpful and friendly. The room service is also very good and the food was enjoyable. We didn't want the breakfast so can't tell you what that was like but everything else was first rate. They even called a cab to the airport for us at 4:30am.
Lovely, central, cheap hotel!
I stayed at the Albert 1ere over Christmas and found it to be a lovely hotel, within walking distance of all the sights of Toulouse. The rooms were very clean and descently sized- especially the bathroom. The price was even better! The staff were kind and helpful. The hotel isn't too far from the station, so if you can walk (with your luggage) then do, as a Euro3 taxi ride cost Euro10 "because we had luggage".
Great hotel, I highly recommend it and would stay there again.
A great stay at Albert 1er hotel
Albert 1er Hotel is located in the heart of the city of Toulouse, France. It's near the Capitol, Place Victor Hugo and the Metro. The room is clear and nicely decorated. I will stay this hotel again if I ever go back to Toulouse.
Clean cheap and in the centre
Clean, cheap hotel very close to the centre of town. The hotel is on a side street so its quiet and there were no safety problems walking around at night. Twin room means two double beds but it was not cramped and ours had a balcony. Dont pay 9 euros for the breakfast its not worth it, there are plenty of small cafes nearby.
Great little cheap hotel
Great place. Recently renovated. Really nice people at the front desk.
Small rooms. Get a room with just a shower and a mini-balcony (#313).
The rooms with baths have only partial curtains.
This is a really nice little hotel right in the heart of Toulouse. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the vast majority of the rooms are perfect. Admittedly a couple of rooms are a little small and you should ask for a large one when you book. The hotel has recently undergone some significant remodeling (July 2003) and they have done a great job in many of the loder rooms bringing the standard up to well above what the two stars would suggest. The breakfast is great and the dining room is light and airy with everything beautifully displayed.
Beware room descriptions
Nice, clean, welcoming, centrally-located hotel with very pleasant staff.
However don't rely on the brochure or the hotel's web site for an impression of what your room might look like.
We booked a 55 Euro room. When I asked how it differed from the 61Euro room I was informed that they were of the same standard - 55E was a double and 61E was a twin room.
The 55E room was very small, dark tatty by comparison with the other rooms and had a bathroom with restricted head height!
Go to this hotel by all means - but ensure that they will guarantee a large room, with floor to ceiling windows, bright decor and polished wooden floors - just as they show in the brochure. They do have some!
