Took a coach trip round Singapore. Little China looked quite interesting - Buddhist temples, also Botantic gardens are worth a longer look if we come here again. Got extended use of our room until 2pm, which was very useful. Had lunch at an Indian restaurant in Little India. It was v hot now, Gill was dressed for winter and was dying! Found the geek shopping arcade - about 10 floors of shops selling nothing but computers, games, cameras, and mobile phones. Gill got some funny looks from local...
singapore, Singapore chilliwineArriving in Singapore we were full of excitement as our shuttle bus drove us to the lovely Albert Court Hotel near the Little India district where we would spend the next 3 nights in luxury, thanks Mum and Dad! The hotel itself was situated around a quaint bustling courtyard filled with restaurants serving the local cuisine and was minutes away from the main districts of the city. It was already evening, but the shoppers where still in full swing filling the local malls and Bugis Street nigh...
Singapore, Singapore heathermills No, not the name of one of the local restaurants (although it might be) but the astronomical effect of being one degree north of the equator. The crescent of the moon is at the bottom, giving the appearance that the Cheshire Cat has just vanished.
The city-state of Singapore has over four million residents, which is just as well as it must take an army to keep it clean. Every pane of glass and floor is spotless, although we did rather feel for the people employed to clean the colossal ...
It was probably a miscalculation on our part to come to the safest, most polite and cleanest city in SE Asia before heading to India but the deed is done and we've been thoroughly softened by Singapore. All those hard traveling callouses have disappeared in this genteel city that simultaneously feels colonial and futuristic. Before we dive into Singapore, we'll catch you up on our last few days in Malaysia. After returning from Borneo, we spent two nights in Kuala Lumpur so we could pay Mogan...
Singapore, Singapore kristymattTime to say "Good-bye" :-( In a few hours I'm (hopefully) sitting in the plane to Amsterdam, travelling back to Good cold Germany... Have had a wonderful & great time here in SE-Asia, won't miss any minute. Back home one of the first things will be to update all the blogs in a real way, incl. pics + the few videos I was able to shoot... But... I'll be back. Asap :-)
Singapore, Singapore mullechipLet's start by saying we LOVE Singapore. From the moment we stepped onto the Singapore Airlines plane and saw the legroom, the individual tellies (with 97 channels to choose from), the bloody Marys, G&Ts, chilled white wine and incredible staff. It is the only flight we have ever taken where we were willing the pilot to go into a holding pattern ! Whether we would have loved it as much if had been our first stop is debatable. But as a breather from the trials of India, Singapore was perfe...
Singapore, Singapore samandphilWe arrived in Singapore on the evening of the 18th and jumped on a shuttle bus through to the Albert Court Hotel, where we were staying for three nights thanks to a Xmas present from Heather's parents. We were immediately struck by the bright neon lights of the city and the clean, spacious feel of the place. Once settled into our hotel, we went on a short walk around the neighbourhood and made our first acquaintance with what quickly became termed the 'fruit of death' - the durian fruit - whi...
