Days 44 - 48 (Sabado 26 - Miercoles 30 Octubre) The ferry ride back to Cancun from Isla Mujeres ended in torrential rain, leaving us to do a mad dash from the ferry, along the pier and to the leaking shelter... Carrying everything in our lives in our heavy backpacks, with no rain covers for them (yet - best invest in some soon). Due to the rubbish …

Arriving in Mexico City was a rollercoaster of emotion, from the excitement of the first real stop on our travels to the nervousness of arriving in a country that is known for its high murder rate and low quality of life! Understanding the traits of the country was always going to be the interesting part but not before being submerged in the …

Friday 10th May

The morning was spent saying goodbye to Isla Mujeres and afterwards we took a ferry back to Puerto Juarez and then a 2 hour bus to Valladolid, where I last updated the blog. We are now sitting outside our hotel in Rio Lagartos enjoying another sunset and Lauren's trying to take photos of flamingos as they fly …

One of the seven wonders of the world

Valladolid is a tiny little town in the Yucatan peninsular. I stayed at an amazing hostel called La Candelaria. This hostel was complete paradise compared to the last one and had an outside kitchen and a garden with hammocks.

Valladolid is well known for its many ceynotes (sinkholes) and the two ruins that are close by. Chitzen Itza and …

This place was fantastic. Read good reviews in LP and TA and it filled them all. The outdoor areas and garden were fantastic for relaxing, even though we had loads of rain. This was the main reason we stayed 4 nights instead of 1. Breakfast was good. Private room was nice (no a/c, but didn't need with the cooler, rainy weather). 2 kitchens (1 outdoors - we mainly used this) with good facilities. 2 fridges to store your own food and beers. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Stay here!
