Our last boat trip in Venice. Bags and bus went very early this morning but we caught up with it. After boarding we took the long bridge back to the mainland. What an amazing two days. We are continuing our journey in Italy heading south west to the historical Assisi. Didn't know what to expect as it is a relatively small place, not a big city, and yet very significant religiously and historically. The first glimpse is amazing. Perched ...

It was after 7 before we gave up the ghost and headed for supper at a local pizzeria. Nothing great. We went to search for a pastry but again our choice was not the greatest. I am writing this on the train and should be in Assisi by 1630!! Arrived at the guest house just before 5. Assissi is spectacular, a wonderful site from the train seeing the basilica and the ...

... the town are those belonging to residents. We parked at the bottom and hitched a ride on the funicular. I love these!

Upon reaching the top, we walked to an overlook from the ancient castle walls. The entire valley spread out before us, farm plots in front, misty mountains in the back. I was enthralled and could have spent the entire day right there in that very spot! However, there were other sights to see...

... they have few if any bugs here; they have 5 times the number of politicians that any other country in Europe (1,500); apartments may have washing machines, but they do not have dryers. They dry their clothes outside, or when it’s cold, on racks over the heating unit. I really am glad we live in the good old USA!!

To break up the trip we made a short stop at the Commonwealth War Cemetery near Monte Cassino. There are ...
