Off to the port!

... I rode around on one of the water bus boats last night for like an hour, sitting outside, freezing my **** off with a huge grin on my face.

Venice is gorgeous. It's unlike anything I've ever seen. This is one time when Vegas didn't get it quite right. You just can't replicate this place. Imagine walking down a normal suburban neighborhood, but everywhere you see cement or grass, replace it with water. It's almost impossible to imagine without seeing it, I think.

The Griswolds final hoorah

... was beautiful with views of the sea from every angle.

Tilly wanted to try some traditional food and we walked the narrow streets and found a small bakery and we shared a Pita we then felt a bit more confident so we explored more of the little side streets and looked around all little shops it was great fun.

We now had walked for while so it was time for a cold drink and we found a little café and got a beer and a red and sat in the sun, the special ...

Ciao Bella!

... perk!) we headed out for the day. Our plan was to make our way over to a house owned by Wake Forest where 16 Wake Forest students are studying for the semester, including one of my good friends Satie and two of my sorority sisters. The house ended up being on the complete opposite side of Venice and because the streets are so confusing and hard to follow, it took us over two hours to make it to the house, but eventually we found it. The Wake Forest house is the old U.S. Embassy ...

Wow there are a lot of tourists here!

After the wedding we spent a few days in Venice before flying home. This is one of the cities I wish I could walk around without anyone else there. I am sure it is much more beautiful without the hundreds of people on every little bridge. It was a lot of fun wandering around, getting lost and then finding a place to enjoy a glass of wine.

cheers

Unexpected honeymoon in Abano Terme...

... directly to Abano Terme, very easy and convenient. The young lady doctor suggested us to stay in one of GB Hotels, a group of 5 structures, because she had been there and felt herself quite comfortable. We followed her advise and thanks to this casual meeting we have discovered one of the biggest and most important thermal resort of all Europe. We arrived at the Hotel Due Torri where nice and gently staff welcomed us. They showed us up to the ...

Day 9- Highlights

... Gondola ride. It was so relaxing and we got to see a whole other part of Venice that you don't get to see just by walking. After the ride, Ami and I just started walking and ended up leaving Sarah and Lu somewhere and just hung otu with Marc, Char, Jay and Lorie. We went to a Jazz pub for dinner which was really good, had a few drinks. But what we didn't notice was that teh ceiling was covered in bras. So ...

... not walk around hearing cars drive by or waiting at a crosswalk. Instead the city remains quiet and protected from all the background noise of a street. Instead it fills with voices, singing, music and boats drifting through the canals. Even the sounds of the motorboats bring back memories of my youth, summers up in Canada on Poppie's boat ...

Venice the Menace!

... witty and wonderful people. Then Hastie and I went to play with Contiki drunks. ·Oops, played silly funboys on travel night and had to stay in Venice an extra day, to hungover and tired to travel ·Heard the greatest Hastieism yet, we were at a table talking music with a table full of Aussie punters, then the conversation moved to favourite radio stations after much discussion Hastie enters the debate with, "You guys might not believe this ...

Of secret itineraries and ghost walks...

... us are more funny than scary. But many of the stories give us an insight into the Venetian lifestyle in the early days. One thing we do learn, is that Venice by night is truly deserted, there is an absolute lack of night life as such - the guide explains that by saying most of the tourists head back early to their hotels after tiring themselves out by sightseeing during the ...
