... leaving you with a bright cheery feeling, the sun is shining and there are palm trees everywhere. Anyways back to Genoa the soon to be ground hog's day of our trip. We had checked, checked and double checked our ticket to make sure we knew of any transfers and where they happened. We made sure we were in our rightful seats even we have had to many experiences of getting in trouble for being in the wrong seat and we are tired of playing musical chairs. As we ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy konaduy... the 11C and there aren't any Roman ruins because the Genovans needed to build somewhere so they just built on top of the old stuff! Anyways it is built on a hill and the modern part is at the top and to get there you travel over little tiny streets and even smaller alley like paths where the buildings appear to almost meet at their tops. We also saw the 16th C palaces nearing the ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy mamafeathersDestination 404

km197'196

A wonderful winding route via a inland section have lead me from Pisa to the coastline around Genova. But since in that part of the environment it was very hard to find a spot for bushcamping I took the toll freeway to prevent to get stuck in the chaotic traffic of Genova and headed north into the highlands of the northern region of Genova. A beatiful spot at the top of a mountain has provided perfect views to sunset and sunrise, but a bloody cold night!

Borghetto di Borbera, Piedmont, Italy martinasfamilyEmbarrassing isn't it? The bird (Jamie) speaks the lingo, FLUENTLY, in the 2 countries we've been to so far. And how do I get by? By attempting to communicate with the locals like Terry Scott in an episode of "Terry and June", where they holidayed in France for the week!! Communication menthods being, speak slowly and shout. My word, that was a funny episode! They don't ...
Arenzano, Italian Riviera, Italy jamieandjasonso left avignon today with thoughts to head to cinque terre, but due to traffic jam only made it as far as arenzano. found a cute pensione and jason was getting sick of driving so seemed like a good place to stop. tried a few others but was like walking through a sad run down old people town so didn't make it more than 5 mins there. well, happy hour time now, so will write more later....
Arenzano, Italian Riviera, Italy jamieandjasonWent to Genoa for a coupe of days. Mainly to visit the famous holiday town of Portofino which the Hollywood celebrities used to go to in the 50's and 60's.

Had to change trains 5 times to get here. The swiss trains were perfectly on time, then the almost stereotypical Italian trains were about 30 minutes behind. Thus making me run to my connecting trains with big backpack, tennis racquet, tennis shoes hitting me in the ...
Genoa, Italian Riviera, Italy bharden... all night! Driving 12 hours in the rain is not the best for your health so obviously the next day me and Chris weren’t feeling to hot! We decided to go to the hostel for a couple nights of recuperation! Unfortunatly we were both tired and drained of energy and didn’t get too much of a chance to go into the city of Genoa.

We did go to the lookout on top of the mountain and have a small picnic! What a breathtaking view! That made us both feel like a million bucks ...
Genoa, Liguria, Italy ktchris... decided to stay back and play cards. Micki & I had a great time by ourselves in Volterra. It was about 30 km from where were were staying and a wonderful drive through the rolling hills of Tuscany. It truly reminded me of the Napa valley and the foothills of northern California, except that there was way less housing density, few fences and hilltop medieval villages everywhere you looked. Okay, maybe not all that similar! Volterrra itself was a very neat town. It specialized in ...
Cinque terre, Italy earlgirl94... our remaining time for the other direction. Despite the fact that is was so hot, we enjoyed the walks through the muri a secco terracing that locals sweated years and years to create. The terraces hold vines as far as the eye can see, and we found it interesting that they only seem to grow white grapes. When we reached Monterosso, I took a long swim out to the breakwater rocks to get as far away from the crowds as I could, and I treaded water long enough to hear ...
