Our plan was to train early in the day to Corrigliia, about 12 minutes away, and then walk to Vernazza before it got too hot, and then for David to keep walking to Monterosso on the hardest and steepest part of the walk.

Because we got to the station early, we got an earlier train, but this passed all our stops and we landed in the last village where the walk is closed. We had coffee and breakfast and waited for an hour for the train back to Corrigliia. We were told ...

... against the rocks. Everything is very wet from the rain but we managed to head up the many stairs into the main street. There is not much to see and in fact, after seeing the Amalfi coast, we were a little disappointed. Checked into our room facing the harbor with a nice balcony @ the Hotel Royal Sport .The room was quite small and the bathroom was teeny tiny, but it was clean and the view was spectacular!
After a shower – we explored the world ...

... Monterosso (the town that is furthest northwest), spent some time enjoying the town and then began the walk along the coast back to the next town, Vernazza. It was a beautiful walk, along a narrow path, built along the cliffs with lots and lots of steps. Climbing a lot of steps always provides a good workout, but when it is 93 degrees and humid, it is even a better workout. The hour and a half hike to Vernazza was great, and ...

... wine on the boardwalk while watching families of families of friends of friends mix and mingle and flow in and out of informal gatherings, holding each others babies, caring for each others kids and being close. I felt like a spy or social voyeur trying to understand what it is that they are sharing, straining my ears to listen to the flow of their words. A 9:15 bus took me back to La Spezia where I started to plan my adventure for the following ...
