          ... there was the most amazing view of the town below. Once we arrived in Portovenere we found a cute little cafe over looking the water and I ordered a pesto and mozzarella focaccia (pesto is very popular here). We then walked up some side streets and visited an exhibition of local photos of the town then walked past a pesto shop with free samples. It was amazing.           ... point, an imposing structure. Still down, down, down we went, though we knew we must be getting closer because we began to run into hikers who were clearly just out for a fitness hike (maybe this is like the Italian Manitou Incline). At about 1:30 (we made great time!!), we hiked in to town, finished with our final day of hiking with 13 more kilometers* under our belts! We felt hot and sweaty and VERY happy.

          ... s "Mother Bear" then kicked in worrying about her "baby boy" at the beach by himself. I had to remind her that he was 15 not 12 and he will likely head home if he is done at the beach.
