Just when we thought Venice was the most beautiful place we would visit in Italy, Varenna may have beaten it into second place. Neither of us can get our heads round the fact that we are actually seeing what's around us. The apartment is amazing and the views from the balcony alone are worth the trip. Claire has also befriended a blind cat so we keep having to think of excuses to go and see the lady so Claire can rub the cat.

After nearly 24hrs in transit, we arrived in Milano. Everyone was happy to finally arrive in Italy, but then came immigration. I swear we had to wait 30-40mins to get through immigration, one upside of waiting so long, the bags were ready to be picked up. After the large wait in line for immigration, we had to wait again, this time for another person who was flying in from England. Again another 30min plus wait in the bus. ... us to a restaurant and we had bruschetta and prosecco. We then went home and were treated to homemade gnocchi with traditional Italian bolognese sauce. We also got to drink Rivella - a Swiss soft drink which tastes like a cross between L&P and iced tea. ... kids were acting tired even before dinner was served, so we optimistically changed them into jammies. It was a nice thought but as soon as the food came out they were determined to have some.

During dinner, we hit some mild turbulence and all of the flight attendants had to sit down. They had to sit down for a loooooooooooong time - like a couple of hours. Since their service wasn't technically completed, they left the lights on in the cabin... ...
