... driver spoke fluent French as well as Italian and some English. I also tried to talk to the woman, but I could only remember Italian words. However, as soon as I heard a French word that I had learned in the past, I remembered it. That seems to be the situation with the languages in the back of my mind - I need to hear (and understand) each word before I can start retrieving it again for speaking.

Getting caught up after three days.
... and get up early for a day of activities. First, we went on a tour of Ostia Antica, an archeological site of an early Roman port that is well preserved and was very interesting. They had an amphitheatre that seated several thousand people that Caligula (the crazy Emperor from “Gladiator) then doubled in size so he could hold Gladiator battles there.

I love Venice, it's one of my favorite places. And having a week here again did not disappoint.
We covered the nearby islands, the larger and smaller ones and wondered through the alleyways. I know it drivers others mad, but I love this aimless wondering around!!!

One too many canals!
... closes at night so we had no choice but to sleep in this wetland! We did our best to move the bed and our belongings away from the waterfalls but most of the damage was already done. Luckily after speaking to the reception desk the next morning they moved us into a non-leaky room and did not charge us for the night. Sleeping in Venice is not cheap so we decided to consider ourselves lucky for getting a free nights stay! ...
