... we were still starting to get soaked. In the end, we just braved it out and got back to the campsite soaking wet. We had planned to eat out tonight as the cupboard was looking pretty bare but as the rain persisted, we decided we could find something in our cupboard. We ended up with baked beans, fried egg, sauté potatoes and toast with a bit of cheese on the side (which didn’t really add anything to the dish). Tomorrow we head off via a supermarket for a big ...

Last day in Italy sadly. We went to the airport via Tivoli and a visit the Villa d'Este, which turned out to be more difficult to find than it should have been and once more TomTom took us through the cobbled back streets! We negotiated back to the train station by ...

... his wife are out today and the roads are clogged with Italian drivers. I have tried to remain open minded about the Italian style of driving. I appreciate there is a difference in culture but today my patience was tried to the limit. The driving is bad enough when the traffic is flowing but in a traffic jam, it is unbelievable. A typical Italian driver doesn’t seem to bother about lane markings at the best of times so why use the three lanes on the ring road when ...

... at the village on the very top of the hill Di Castel San Pietro Romano. This is a lovely little village and we explored the streets and squares. There was a little park at the top with a memorial to three boys who were killed by a bomb during the war at that spot - a little reminder of what the town suffered. There is one shop and one restaurant in the village. Ivano told us that the restaurant is family owned and run and they ...
