Rome seen by a Segway
Last night, after Andrew got back from his massage, we set out to find the best Roman pizza. And we walked and walked, until finally realising that Lygon Street in Melbourne had more wood fire ovens than this city all up. So we ended up circling the block and finding a place that did pizza that was on the other side of the Pantheon to our hotel. It …
I want a Pope on a Rope
Today we have an early entry tour booked to see the Vatican. I have booked a small group tour not exceeding 8 people with early entry to fight off the crowds. We have a delightful American tour guide called Alexandra and she is well versed in Latin and the arts, so we are in for a treat.
First off she explains all of the paintings in the …
The eternal city still holds a lot of charm
On the first evening we explored around our hotel and visited inside the Pantheon and also walked to Piazza Navona that is renowned as a spot for artists to display their work. Our next day in Rome was spent exploring some of the areas we have not spent time in before. In particular we went to Capitoline Hill, from this area you get some of the …
We are in Rome!
After a very long flight, we arrived safely in Rome. I have to keep pinching myself to be sure I am really here. We are staying at a wonderful hotel literally beside the Pantheon called the Albeergo Del Senato. Attached is a photo of the view from our room.
Everywhere we look there are beautiful fountains and buildings. We wandered down …

Once again Trip Advisor did not let us down. An excellent choice. When booking we advised that my wife was having a 50th birthday. They provided us with the only room with a balcony overlooking the Pantheon. On her actual birthday a bottle of champagne on ice was delivered to our room along with a hand written note. Staff have all been exceptionally pleasant and helpful. The rooms were always serviced immaculately. Being close to the Pantheon the hotel is close to all of the sights, restaurants and shops. All in all a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

Un hotel justo en el centro de Roma, cómodo y sin ruidos. El desayuno estaba bien y el servicio amable.
Todo muy bien.

Historical Traveler Reviews Albergo del Senato Rome
Two years in a row
A fine hotel in a great location. We have had wonderful stays two years in a row and much help from the staff. The view of the Pantheon is unbelievable, the rooms are attractively decorated and a reasonable size. The price is low for such a location and room. We will stay here again.
Location, Location
While in Rome, if you want to step out the door and be at the Pantheon, if you want to be within easy walking distance of the Vatican, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, and Forum this is the hotel. I can not say enough about the location, even though right outside the door is the busy piazza of the Pantheon, you can choose to go to the wonderful shops and restuarants in the quiet surrounding side streets. Two blocks away is the Piazza Navona. You are also two blocks away from Piazza della Minerve where you can see a Michalangelo for free at the church Santo Maria Minerve. My wife and two teen age sons stumbled on this rare gem at an affordable rate the last week of November 2003. The hotel's decor is exceptional and the facility is spotless. The staff was freindly and always helpful. We stayed in what they call the Apartment, room 101. This room has a king bed in the upstairs, and two sofa sleepers in the lower level along with a stove, sink and refrigerator. The rate for the apartment was 301 euro. The only downfall of the apartment is there is no view. Since we did not book in advance, the apartment was not available for our whole stay so we had to move to two rooms. While we were out for the day all of our bags were moved. The view from the rooms is wonderful and the rate reasonable at 185 euro. After a side trip to Venice and Florence, we all decided that we had to go back to our "home in Rome" room 101, for our last night before heading back to the US. We highly recommend this hotel. We will definately have reservations at Albergo del Senato for our next trip to Rome.
Roma Delight
Just returned from our fifth trip to Rome but our best ever due to our experience at the Albergo Del Senato. The hotel location to sites and restaurants can't be any better. All details of the rooms and public areas are in such good taste. The staff is very gracious and helpful.
Even though the hotel is located on the Piazza della Rotonda, rooms in the hotel are very quite. The breakfast room is so pleasant and the food outstanding. What a pleasant way to start the day in this beautiful city.
Excellent Choice
My husband & I stayed here for a week fall 2003 and were so pleased with it that we are gtaking are kids there to join our family reunion this Christmas. The room we had was very small, yet extremely comfortable with all the comforts of a big, luxe hotel, and tastefully decorated. We had french doors facing the square & looking right over the roof & facade of the Pantheon......magical! Although a major tourist sight, it was surprisingly quiet in the evening. Earlier on when there was some noise, the doors were fairly soundproof. We liked the fact that we could open them and feel like we were right in the action of the piazza! The staff were friendly and very helpful. I gave them a list of all my preferred restaurants and they made all the reservations. This time around we are taking the Senior suite which also has a view on the Pantheon, but is bigger and has its own private terrace.
Lucky escape
Tried to get in here but hotel was full. Thought we d have a look inside to see what we had missed and hotel receptionist looked at us as if we d just crawled out of a hole! (I can assure you we were dressed very smartly!) Very glad we did not stay here due to this unpleasant attitude and had a delightful stay at the Cesari close by which was much cheaper and with very friendly staff.
La Dolce Del Senato!!
The location of this hotel is PERFECT! Located on a beautiful traffic-free piazza in the shadow of the Pantheon, this hotel was just right. The rooms had beautiful wooden floors and silk on the walls as well as contrasting crown molding that gave the rooms an elegant old world feeling. Our view was the exact view from the Del Senato website-overlooking the piazza nd the Pantheon. The view at night is breathtaking. The morning buffet-style breakfast was wonderful!
Featuring breads and sweets and eggs and prosciutto and cappuccino and fresh fruits...it was a great way to start the day! The hotel is so centrally loctaed that you can walk to most of the major sites of Rome.
The Vatican was a 15 minute walk and the colisseum a 30 minute walk.
There is a WONDERFUL gelato bar connected to the hotel and many great restaurants in the area. Remember, you'll pay more to eat on the piazza-but if you turn any corner of the piazza meals are about half price. There is an incredible little restaurant run by nuns from around the world called L'eau Vive, very near the hotel that I highly recommend. And did I mention the rooftop bar at the hotel?? Possibly one of the most beautiful views I've ever seen-you must make this a nightly stop! Wonderful wonderful wonderful hotel!
Great hotel
This hotel is wonderfully centrally located, right next to the Pantheon, and I found the staff extremely pleasant and helpful. I had a single room that wasn't great--small and no view--but it was well-appointed and clean. And the rooftop terrace, which is only open to guests of the hotel, provides a great view of the Pantheon and the piazza in front of it--a wonderful place for watching sunsets. It was a good value, very professional, very pleasant.
Very pleased
Obtained a room here at the last minute for a final night in Rome, through an airport booking service. Paid $130 for what would normally have been a $300 room, according to the rack rate posted on the door of the room. Our room was really beautiful, with silk wall covering, polished wood floors, nicely equipped bathroom with full tub with shower, and a big window directly overlooking the Pantheon and the Piazza. Staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive, even though we were only overnight guests. Location could not be better! Very central and convenient. Hotel breakfast was a nice buffet. I would come back in a heartbeat. Very high quality in every respect.
