... Gardens, the Spanish Steps, or the stylish stores and shops (such as Murano or Louis Vuitton), there was always an inviting cafe terrace nearby, where we could relax and enjoy the marvelous Italian food.

In addition to our tour guide, I was also fortunate on this trip to enjoy Chef Dee’s daily gourmet breakfasts and dinners. I was more than happy to handle the clean-up duties, and to lend a hand in the kitchen when ...

... and the center of Catholicism until St. Peter’s Basilica opened during the Renaissance (1508). San Giovanni in Laterano is still the city’s cathedral (not St. Peter’s) and is presided over by the Bishop of Rome – the pope. It is a space meant to WOW you and it certainly does. Bormini (the architect - more about him tomorrow) remodeled the church and opened up its spaces to great visual effect. ...

... but I think it's a case of going out and exploring it for yourself and finding all the personal favorites that you just can't help but see again and again. This was my second trip to Rome and I am already looking into learning the language to go back and possibly work for a bit. I am that sucked in by all its beauty and culture. I hope anyone who goes experiences the things I did and felt the way I did whilst being there. Ciao for now... S ...

... in Rome, going along the main thoroughfares and at peak times it is madness. I made the mistake of trying to catch it back from the Vatican one evening, and experienced the 'crush' hour in Rome and I mean crush! The doors open and people keep pushing onto the bus until it is impossible for the doors to close - then someone has to admit defeat and let go, plopping back into the melee that is the impatient commuters still waiting at the stop. This was happening in ...

... it depicts the Trojan priest, Laocoön, and his sons being strangled by a sea serpent. This piece was rediscovered in the 16th century, and Michelangelo was brought in to help reconstruct it. It's a masterpiece, and even though we had to fight through a throng of gawkers to get our place in front, it was worth it. The detail is unreal. I'll never understand how artists can make stone look so life-like, right down to the veins in ...

Historical Traveler Reviews Hotel Artorius Rome

    Piccolo hotel di altissimo livello

    from

    from

    from

    Erstklassiges, kleines Hotel

    from

Lovely New Hotel - Great Location

    from

Lovely new hotel in my favourite area of Rome. As a regular visitor to the city fro work reasons, I always choose Monti as my location of choice because it is simply the best area in Rome. The Artorius is a fantastic addition to the neighbourhood and fits in fantastically with everything else as is cosmopolitan, stylish and charming. Lovely little courtyard for breakfast and in the ideal location next to Via Nazionale, a cracking little spot to start from no matter what you are in Rome to do. Would recommend to all!

    Fantastico hotel nuovo, posizione eccezionale

    from

    from

Reizendes, neues Hotel in meiner Lieblingsgegend in Rom.

    Tolles, kleines Hotel

    from

    Superb small hotel

    from

We stayed 3 nights mid September 2007. Great location close to the Colisseum and Forum, near metro and buses, restaurants, shops. Via del Boschetto - typical Roman side street; narrow, cobbled. Artorius is a superb small hotel. Reception area and hallways; cool and tasteful with lovely stained glass. Room was quiet, very clean and well decorated with a great bathroom - a pleasure to come back to after a days walking around a fantastic city! Air-conditioning, mini bar etc. Staff were helpful and pleasant and breakfast in the open shaded courtyard was lovely - great cappuccino!

Very pleased with all aspects of Hotel Artorius and if/when I return to Rome I will definitely use this hotel again.
