... the small harbor. While the British occupied the island, they passed on their tradition of distilling juniper berries and to this day, Menorcan gin is prized.
After checking out the town square and walking around for a bit, we found a nice bar to get drinks in and tried the Menorcan gin. We returned to the boat for dinner and then hit the town again after dinner for more drinks and a place to hang out, people watch and relax.
Far de Favaritx is on the very northeast tip of the Menorca. There is a light house out on the very tip of cape and from the landscape it’s obvious that this area gets a lot of wind, heavy surf and storms.
We didn’t stop here or go ashore, but the weather was calm enough to take the helicopter up and get a scenic view of this part of the island. With the arid Mediterranean climate, the cliffs and the rocky coastline, it reminded me of parts of the California coast ...
We arrived last night in Mahon, the capital of Menorca, Spain. It's an interesting towns since it has a large natural harbor, which was of interest to the British, the master sailors that they are. For this reason the British occupied the town three times during the 18th century. It’s a charming town with a flare very different from those of the other Balearic towns, with its British influenced architecture and its beautiful harbor. The one claim to fame that my ...

So everything biased towards them
Shopping lots of tat though lots of cheap restaurants selling food aimed at Germans (sausages, Wurst, et al) some good speciality restaurants, Chinese, Vietnamese, and a few English Pub bars serving English food.
The shops though were surprising that once they knew you were English they discounted lots of stuff from trinkets to scuba and fishing gear
... I will post some photos (including the shard) when I get a chance. Our work this week also included washing, labeling, and indentifying the pottery. We now move on to an excavation of the nearby city. We´re all hopeful that the city will yield more interesting finds. We´ve already found some glass and lead. The process is much slower as we need to be more careful here. We´re also hoping to find ...
Ciudadela, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands celliott76... We explored the town the next morning and had a good coffee at a little cafe overlooking the harbour. Back to the boat and cast off for a short sail around the Island to another little bay where we would stay for another night before jumping across to Mallorca (our favourite Island). The bay was deserted and we tucked into a cove and again watched thunderstorms all around us.
Fornells, Balearic Islands, Spain and Canary Islands bellavita... that its beaches are amazing. My project here is working on an archaeological dig. The program is a combination of learning archaeology and forced labor! Fortunately, the site is one that interests me naturally as it is Roman, surprisingly from the time of the Republic. Right now, we are working on a fort site, and we will switch over to a city in about a week. The work is hard, as we ...
