Frances was surprised to see items on the menu she'd heard about, but never seen before. Like Sahlab (spelling?), a milky coconut, banana and cinnamon drink, dishes with couscous, and that the babaganoush was actually spicy. [[Apparently most food in Egypt is on the bland side.]]

... out into the Sand Sea for some 4WD'ing, sandboarding and visiting some springs. The 4WD'ing was unbelievable and it made it abundantly clear that businesses really have no insurance or OH&S concerns. Some of the slopes our driver took us down and across were beyond belief and even the driver seemed at times a little unnerved as he braked erratically to try and dig the tires into the sand to stop us from ...
Siwa Oasis!
... way down to the lobby of the hotel, which was full of empty fire-extinguishers. After we were told the fire was out, we decided to go for our run, and as we left the ground floor the entire entrance was full of a fire-extinguishing chemical powder that the fire department had sprayed. As it turns out, the main electrical connection to the building (housed in a small plastic/fiberglass box at the entrance to the building) had caught fire, sending billows of smoke up ...

... Oh well- I'm totally brave right?
We began driving into the desert, specifically called The Great Sand Sea- it literally used to be the bottom of the Sea, but now is blatantly a sea of sand, with actual shells and fossils of fish in some areas- very cool. We sped through the desert, bumping up and down, and I took an insane amount of pictures and was literally giddy with excitement. I must have said "Oh.My.God. This is SO awesome" five million times along ...
