We seem to have slept quite a lot since arriving here at 4am on Thursday morning. The hotel is nice and the Air Con is essential. We walked around the City yesterday and took in a few of the sites. The City is very compact and easy to get around on foot. We walked around the Bicentennial Park, with views out over the Timor Sea. There are lots of plaques commemorating the War Heroes and also telling the story of Darwin's history.
We have been to see our "Chubby Van" it is called Donkey ...

Australia is turning out to be the high point of my trip so far. It's the people, the scenery, the laid back vibe...actually it's everything about this place and I have only touched a tiny corner of it. Today I set out for Litchfield National Park with a bunch of Australians and had an amazing day. The park is known for its diversity of vegetation and waterfalls. Though this is definitely the dry season for about another month now, the ...

Onto Katherine Gorge where we relaxed around another natural swimming hole before taking a hike to the lookout on the Baruwei track to watch the sun go down. That night we listened to some live music at the campground while we had a glass of wine and barbecued lamb chops. Next morning we were up early for a boat cruise up the Katherine Gorge to the 1st and 2nd gorges. There are 13 natural gorges in total carved through sandstone by the Katherine river with ...
It was really starting to feel like a road trip. We stopped in the weirdest places all day. First was The Daly Waters Pub that is an icon in the desert. (Google it). Good ...
Tennant Creek to Alice Springs, Northern Territory, Australia sharonsutera... we now faced our greatest test - escaping the shopping centre carpark!!! We decided that the only way out was the way that we got in - through the entrance. Luckily we found some good Samaritans to redirect the oncoming traffic as we drove out and made our exit.
Next it was off to the Darwin water park which offers the facilities of a small "Wet & Wild" at no cost. Although Darwin has beaches with the box jellyfish, crocodiles and ...
... of them. On Sunday his squash buddies, Belly from the Tigers, Damo, Tony and Julie met at the Lizard Lounge in town where they all watched the Melb v Tigers game. I was called into town at 6pm to pick the boys up - Greg was well and truly ready for bed then.
Deb came with me to bring Damo home also as it was his car they’d driven in, but Damo was not interested in heading home just yet. Deb drove the car home and left him to it. After one last “hello ...
... well signposted and my directions were a bit vague but we finally got there to the lovely air conditioned gallery. Lots of interesting stuff here about Cyclone tracey, crocodiles and aboriginal art.
I have had a great time in Darwin. Considering it is such a small place there is lots to keep you amused and it has a really nice fun holiday atmosphere. The trips to the National Parks were interesting and great fun too. Looking forward to the next part of my trip now.

Banka Banka, Australia damioke... of the cattle station. We got there, but a howling wind, tried to put our tent up and failed! Much to Gra's disgust we had to drive on to the next 'stop' which was a petrol station with a motel out of Hitchcock!! Got a room, more like a container, but it was clean. And Gra perked up when he realised their Tv was in colour and that we could watch the Portugal v France match!!! which we did.
