... t many taxis around. I stopped off at the big department store called Fred Meyer. This store sells everything and comes out of Portland, Oregon. I dropped by an antique store and then a raw hide shop. The raw hide shop sold furs, patchwork fabric and beads- a weird combination.

I grabbed a coffee at the office, as we have no coffee in the "turtle truck" and came back and read for an hour in the sun and then for another hour in the van with the heater ...

Better start ducking as Hunting season is on !

... shook everything inside the cupboards and we were only doing about 35 mpr ! From the border crossing exactly and right the way into Chicken which was about an hour, we passed Hunter after hunter all with ATVs and boats and they had set up camps all along beside the road. Amazing. It was like we turned from no cars on the road to hundreds of cars on the road just by crossing the border. We were starting to get a bit worried about all these cowboys ...

... was by students who work here in the summer and they were terrific. At the end of the boat trip it was lunchtime and we were treated to a sit down lunch...military precision..wish I had taken a photo. The afternoon was a visit to an old gold mining area but we passed under the 800 mile long Alaskan Oil Line...Alaska is rich in oil etc so heard the history of that too. Then it was on to the gold mine where ...

... excited the kids are and the local entertainment was fantastic.

After the event we decided to head home and try to get to bed early. We plan to spend all day tomorrow out at Chena Hot Springs. We did play a few rousing games of Farkel. In the end we found out that Marianne is a very poor winner. She had a great, come from behind victory and proceeded to rub it in by "decorating" the score sheet. One thing ...
