First day in Portugal

... and so far, it does not disappoint. Arrived at Castro Marim which is a beautiful little town with massive hilltop fort and castles that are open during the day. WE left that for later and found a 3 km beach with glorious sands that is the start of the famous Algarve. Too windy for much lying out as we were shotblasted by the sand. Not too many swimmers either as it was suitable only for the hardy.

... at high water – ouch! We took our kedge anchor over to them to see if they could winch themselves off, it failed on both attempts the
anchor was too light to get them off the mud. Luckily the marina got in contact with a naval vessel which was around the area (taking school kids out on an adventure) and they towed them off the mud – must say they did have to use some wellie before the boat ...

... is part of the border of Spain and Portugal. Unfortunately the wind was on the nose therefore no sail.

We got the to marina at Ayamonte and discovered it to be quite silted up therefore not enough depth for us to stay in at low water. So we filled our water tanks and then proceeded to anchor just outside the marina.

... way' hasn't been far on this trip most of our moves are under 140 kms. end to end, with todays being the shortest at about 95 kms. We are only covering the bottom 1/3 of the country on this trip, and it's nice to have relatively short distances so we can make unscheduled stops when & where we like.
