SOUTH TO CROWDY HEAD

... out crops. We tackled the 5 km headland track a little late on Monday morning and it was a hot day to tackle the steep incline but the views, different types of forest and pretty wildflowers kept us distracted and oohing and aahing. It was another clear blue sky day and we really appreciated the beauty and isolation of the park. A wonderful 5km trek!

We plan to get hold of Aussie author Kylie Tennant’s book that she wrote during WW2 about the ...

... happened to be a shack where you put money into an honesty box for the air. The man who ran it came out for a chat and said we should stay on a different part of the reserve. The area we were in was full of beautiful fresh water lakes so we ended up staying at a campsight on the lake for the night. We were going to stay in Newcastle for a day or two but decided to have a fly-by visit and head south to Sydney!

... was a steep climb back onto the main trail but we got a sense of satisfaction out of finding what we were looking for, hard and all as it was. Went to Perpendicular Head for a walk too, where there's a 40m drop off the clifftops to the sea. Ideally, we would have liked to have walked up to the top of North Brother Mountain on our way back but it wasn't possible before dark. It's an excellent viewing spot, you can see for miles in a number of directions.

Day at leisure

A short trip to the general store to pick up the newspapers then a relaxing morning sipping coffee on the verandah Jenny took us on a 4WD tour of the property, meeting up with Willy tending to the cattle Lunch on the western verandah, enjoying the antics of Bella (the blind labrador) & Ted (the hyperactive Jack Russell) Susan escaped to her beloved garden A delicious BBQ dinner, & more red wine of course. Susan's famous creme caramel topped it off.

... locals have successfully campaigned to keep the likes of high rise buildings, mc d's, starbucks and pizza hut out of town. Hurrah for the hippies (and mick dundee who also lives here...ripper mate). According to one guide books this is god's town...but hold on doesn't he live in port maquarie? Well maybe he has a holiday home there or perhaps he has moved house and hasn't got his mail redirected. I also feel I should tell you byron is also a mecca for ...

... about 25 minutes door to door for me! Its only about 20 minutes to bondi and such as well to anyone thats interested! We hired a car and drove up to newcastle a couple of weeks ago. Driving in sydney was hair raising but i'm proud to day i drove over the harbour bridge and spent the entire time cursing at shane and my cousin and her boyfriend who were in the car with us, cos there was a million lanes and nobody could work out what lane i ...

Back from the outback

Well here I am in Byron Bay, nursing a hangover following a eye opening 5 days in the outback, completely off the tourist trail. What an experience. In the last 5 days I have been to the blue mountains; been wine tasting; gone hunting for wild boar (not my favourite activity but this trip was about seeing how people in this part of the world live); sheered as sheep (or part of one ...

... guide said that we can now graduate to the highest point since we did well on the other two. Now, it's my turn....ok, here we go.....woohooo!!!!! It feels like neverending...until I saw myself on the crest again. Whew! what a ride! Now it's gonna be hard work again going up. After those few challenges, I feel exhausted now and dehydrated. We didn't bring along our water bottles, we left it on the car. So we're all quiet sitting back on the 4WD ...
