It is kind of hard to believe that I have never previously been to Venice, one of big European tourist magnets, but I hadn't. In fact, prior to this trip, I had only been to Florence, Siena and Pisa in Italy. I think the main reasons are the churches and food. I could die happy without seeing another Catholic monstrosity dedicated to the greed of the Church at the expense of its flock, and I generally don't like Italian food (more on that to come) ...

... B was to find somewhere else as cheap and nasty as our intended destination. 45 minutes later and patience sorely tested, we arrived somewhere and decided to stop for dinner. The upside, $3.50 Spritz, we settled in, enjoyed a cheap eat and were grateful for getting lost. The receptionist told us that our room wasn't ready just yet so we had to come back in an hour.
