Hi everyone
On Friday, we visited the amazing Burj al Arab hotel for lunch. The only way you can get in is if you are a guest (it costs $1000's a night) or if you make a booking for lunch or dinner.
This hotel is the only 7-star hotel in the world, and unless we win lotto I don't think that I'll ever be able to stay a night ...
Hi every one
We arrived safe and sound in Dubai after a pretty unevenful 10 1/2 hour flight from Perth. From there things went a little south, as our hotel that mum had booked told us that they didn't have a spare room for us, but they had given us another room at the Marriot hotel around the corner - and from there things started looking up again. We were put into a massive 2 bedroom suite overlooking the Palm Atlantis hotel. So we had two ...

... days patrol I am just about ready to eat a piece of cardboard with salt and sauce just for some flavour. Food will definitely be a major part of my next port visit. Day 5 was our last day so I went back to the Mission and then headed out to Wild Wadi's water park. This is a massive water park full of water slides, pools and other water sports. This is where you realise that despite being an Islamic state, Dubai is a very diverse place. Side by side swimming in the pools and ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates jock298I was thinking of going to farway places, and then figured out I really had to go visit the museums of Sharjah, as it is called the "cultural" city of the UAE. Not that it is fabulous, but the others don't have much to offer apparently. But in the end that was not so simple. After a few late evenings at work (rather late nights in fact), and knowing that I start work at 7 every morning, I collapsed on my bed at 6.30pm on Thursday night, and got up ...
Sharjah, United Arab Emirates peacefrog... Luckily, I have my business class RTW...so I'm in my Tantra t-shirt from this cool Indian store, backpack and cardboard tube containing my Buddhist Tangka rubbing elbows with the 'other' half. Thank goodness my travel agent found that super discounted fare last year...it's made all the difference on these long hauls. I sat next to a really nice Sikh businessman on the previous flight and was invited to his daughter's wedding in ...
Dubai, Dubai, United Arab Emirates tracystravels... midnight. Everyone, doctors included, are drawn to the Gulf by huge opportunities. It has also brought them closer to the Third World. With Dave's encouraging, We think Yahia and Gertrude have seen the worth of serving the Nepalese. They will come and serve in Ilam, In Sha' Allah (If God be willing) Rows of houses, two or three stories, apartment blocks ten to thirty. The 'Sail' hotel, Burj Al Arab, 80 stories, and then the tallest: Burj Dubai, already 150 ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates hgkmrer... up a really nice walking area, like a boardwalk. Sharjah had an amazing Corniche, with hundreds of palm trees perfectly lined up and a MASSIVE mosque at the end. The buildings that overlooked the bay were beautiful as well. The Sheikh of Sharjah is a trained architect, so he has made sure that most of the newer buildings have some sort of unique trait. Then we headed to the Central Souq. It is this HUGE mall, full of gold and jewelry, rug, clothe, and other random ...
Sharjah, Dubai, Middle of Nowhere,, United Arab Emirates midtowntsl0... Oh by the way, getting back to the entertainment, you could play video games with anyone on the plane, needless to say I kicked Iraidas butt in a couple of round of checkers, trivia, and pong (Ok maybe she won a few). But don't let our lame game choice fool you there were many more better games, like battleship, tetris, and other ones that aren't as popular but still enjoyable. The plane was beautifully decorated. It made you think you were riding on a magic carpet, the ...
In Transit, Dubai, United Arab Emirates midtowntsl0... I then spent about an hour in the centres library and then to lunch with Willem and Marloes. Afternoon spent catching up on some emails and writing up notes. Fish meal tonight. Excellent, as is all the meals I have had here. Monday 12th September : More odd dreams last night. Up a touch earlier and toured both the Breeding Centre and Arabia's Wildlife Centre. I am not bored, I never get bored, but I am starting to get itchy feet. I need to be doing something. Tickets to India and ...
