Alshikh Khalifa Street Manama, Bahrain
... sitting around all these businessmen... waited on hand and foot... hot towls, Champagne, French wine, white table cloth meals... so just when the crowds and pushing and shoving at the Cairo airport was about to make me explode, I was placated. In conclusion, all Airlines in the US are **** compared to the service you get elsewhere, and for less money.
Bahrain, Bahrain brianburkhardtOut of the widow Bahrain looks like lots of dust with skyscrapers on. Inside it is a strange mix of Christmas decorations lots of tour groups who look like they might be going on pilgramage, 25k rolexes in duty free, mcdonalds, costa and free internet to keep us amused. We've got 2hrs to kill - body clocks already out of sink! Am going to try and learn some nepalese from a podcast.
Bahrain, Bahrain paulandvicki... which had started moving ahead (full marks to the driver for keeping his momentum). I had at some point wondered why the driver wasnt speeding up- it was only later that I learnt that a few days earlier there had been an accident and that all drivers were given strict instructions to keep momentum. Well, I found myself getting in between cat naps, and when I was jolted out of one I realized that we were speeding past some great city - had to be Riyadh, all lit up and awake in ...
Al Khobar, Ash Sharqiyah, Saudi Arabia ashok_s... to the west and Qatar to the east. We didn't know where it was until we were due to fly home via the island. It's interesting to note the road bridge (King Fahd Causeway) which links the two countries and is 17 miles long. Soon to be surpassed by the Bahrain to Qatar 'Friendship Bridge' currently under construction at 25 miles - it will be the longest bridge in the world.

... suddenly deems you to be maybe halfway innocent. International flights over here still have the 3 ounce liquid rule, and my plastic bag is so full of them it won't even close. No one has even asked to see it when it passes through the xray. And the service you get enroute is just awesome. Yes, I had to travel to Africa and the Middle East to experience first hand what freedom of movement actually feels like. In the ...
Manama, Bahrain atlpilot36... since I arrived. Although it is a bit hazy from the sands and some pollution but not nearly as bad as Mumbai and Bangkok. The day I arrived we went go-karting next to the new Formula 1 racing track here. The go-karts went quite fast (although mine didn't, at least wıth me at the controls, since I came in second to last or last each time) and it was a fun course full of sharp turns and spin-outs. Car racing seems to have caught on big here ...
Manama, Bahrain g_shook... all of our passports, checked the validity of our exit-re-entry visas, and stamped our passports. The next checkpoint was the insurance checkpoint in Bahrain, where they gave us insurance for the vehicle for a measly 6 dollars (not bad!) and finally we hit Bahraini passport control which rechecked our passports and waved us through to the car check area. A man there took the paper passport control had given us, asked me if I had anything to declare, and waved us ...
Manama, Bahrain shadocg... on you at the time; dollars, euro, pounds... It's no wonder that current currency markets are so volatile - what with them changing each time someone new arrives to this island. Stepping out of the airport we were immediately hit with some quite formidable heat as well as humidity thick enough to push-back as you walked through it. Really, you could just feel the water starting to cling to you with any given movement. And this in a practical dessert ...
Manama, Bahrain bradman... 10 square kilometers), it was well done. The visit included a 45-minute bus ride, which we shared with several Arab families, with the women and girls in full cover. At that point, we were about half way down the country, and the sun had set. So, we drove back through rush-hour traffic to Manama and the Grand Mosque to do some night shots. The cupola and minarets were lit, making for a good subject. We were there until it was closed down, and the lights were turned off - right in the ...
