Arrived in Asti yesterday afternoon. After the long drive from Grenoble, we didn't feel like doing too much, so we just checked into our hotel (Hotel Lis) and veged out for the rest of the day. Found a great little restaurant close by to dine at that night, the Osteria del Palio. ... vista opened up before us - towering snow clad peaks surrounded us as we climbed higher out of the valley. Soon the entire mountain range was bathed in brilliant sunshine, bringing every crag and ridge line into stark relief. The temperature plummeted to -8C as the altitude passed the 2000m mark. Fresh snow bordered the road as we negotiated switchbacks and tunnels. It really was a most magnificent drive.

... 8211; no crunching noises. Driving through Voltri, the small town before the campsite, a little old lady stepped out from a bus stop and tried to flag me down. I was tempted

Ahhhh; if only I could live in Italy forever... And it's so lovely in the fall. There's such nice energy in downtown Casale; bustling cafes and lots of cute dogs with everyone bundled up and the storefronts getting ready for Natale.
