... dropping for nan and grandad ;) ). Afterwards I took a Dhow across the river and explored the Souks! They had Gold, Spices and Textile Souks. The travel guide came in handy and I adopted the method of staring at the floor as I went through the Souks to avoid being hassled. It worked. ... of the Ferraris! It was a beautiful walk through the granite streets and onto the beachfront however the heat and humidity was so staggering that it was very uncomfortable (at least 45degrees!!!!)Even our Qatari "tour-guides" were struggling and they are used to the heat! So after about an hour of perseverance and around 2 litres of sweat lost we decided to refresh ourselves at the Meydan beach club with some much needed Mojitos. I had heard about Dubai many times over the years and have a mild interest in visiting. We wanted to try and break up the flight between Greece and Singapore and limit connecting flights without the benefit of seeing something new so we decided on Dubai.

We flew Emirates Air from Athens to Dubai. It was the first time for us on a 777. The inflight experience was pretty cool. Nice entertainment system, food offering, and seats ...

... difficult to see the tall buildings. I'm not sure if it is a pollution problem or not. However, once we got to the hotel we discovered that a ticket was also required to enter the hotel proper if you weren't a guest. Thirty Dubai dollars was too steep so another taxi ride back to the Sheraton Hotel at the Mall of the Emirates for a buffet dinner and a glass of wine to celebrate my birthday. A Metro trip back to our hotel for a good night's sleep before our flight to Melbourne.

... the men, and I walk with purpose, pretending I know exactly where I'm going.

After making a couple of purchases, I headed towards the Spice Souk and the abra station. A quick ride back across the Creek, and I was headed back to my hotel. I was only outside for 2 hours, but when I got back to my room, my clothes were drenched. I got cleaned up and then got ready for my desert safari.

I don't think I've mentioned yet how much I like my hotel. There's always jasmine ...
