... street but once out of the terminal we quickly found our hotel, St Gottard, which was very close to the train station. We checked in, found a bar on the street and then headed back into the hotel for dinner and bed. Nice day of travelling and Zurich looks like a pretty city, reminds me of Melbourne a bit too. Trams in the city center and lots of trees around, something we didn't see much of in ...

      Neuschwanstein Castle

Up and about at 7am and after some brekky we took a taxi to Hauptbahnhof (Central Station), where we started our tour to King Ludwig's castle. It is believed this castle is the idea behind Walt Disney's Snow White castle. The castle is quite a way out of Munich so off we go. ... zones, seemingly to be unaware or simply not care. Without having to break too many laws and getting a bit lost in the dark countryside I still managed to get us to our inn by 7:30 for check in. Our inn was family operated and probably only had 6 rooms. It was quaint and pastoral, and we could hear cowbells ringing in the field behind us. From the front of the inn you could look up onto the mountain and see Neuschwanstein Castle lit up and ...

... would be a quick detour to see another of Ludwig's castles on the Chiemsee, the largest lake within the confines of Germany (the Bodensee is larger but shares a border with Switzerland). To get to the castle, one takes a ferry to an island, and there is greeted with a slightly-smaller replica of Versailles, named the Herrenchiemsee, an homage to Ludwig's hero, Louis XIV, and resplendent under over 14 pounds of gold leaf. Although never finished ...
