Neuschwanstein castle

... br>The only way to see the castle was by an organized tour, so we had to wait up at the top for awhile until our tour time-the views were more than enough to keep us occupied. The tour itself was a bit overwhelming-there were about 50 people and our tour guide had a very strong accent and was hard to hear, but at least we could see the inside of the castle, which was amazing. Ludwig had an obsession with swans and they were all ...

Schloss Neuschwanstein

... The Schloss is the last stop on the Romantic Road in Germany. There were many Japanese tourists, which was fun for us to see. Unfortunately one side of the castle was under repair, but it was still beautiful to see the castle in its lush surroundings.

... weren't arguing as our hope was dwindling. The place turned out being OK as we were only spending one night.

The main reason we came here was to see the two castles, Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein. We arrived prior to the tickets going on sale and are glad we did as the line just kept on growing. The first one, Hohenschwangau was ...

Disneyland ain't got nothin' on this

Over the weekend I decided to take a trip to Munich (~3 hrs south) and Neuschwanstein Castle (2 hours further). I left Friday night after work and arrived in Munich around midnight at my hostel. A quick tip to those who will travel in Europe and stay in hostels: Never never ever forget your shower flip flops & towel.... I stayed in essentially a 40 bed room with that shared a couple washrooms with another 30-40 bed room (luckily I had ...

A stop on the tour

... too.
The rest of the tour took us to Linderhof castle and Neuschwanstein castle. What magical looking places they were. Neuschwanstein is the castle Walt Disney uses the sillohette of at the start of his movies. Anyway, after the trip it was back to Munich for a day or so and then on the plane home.

Bavarian Castles

... It was way up and beyond and not feasible for the random daytripper. At least I was finally satisfied with this. As long as no one else was getting that killer view I was happy ;) I got some good shots though of the snowy mountain tops, a waterfall below the castle and the surrounding green and lakes. It was an absolutely gorgeous area there. Nestled in some gaps in the mountains in the middle of Bavaria. There was also a second castle called Hohenswangau if I remembered to ...

Füssen and its enchanting castles

... white granite edifice was an anachronism from the start; by the time Ludwig died in 1886, the first highrises had pierced the New York skyline. For all the money spent on it, estimated 3 million Euros, the king himself spent only 170 days in his dream palace. As a matter of interest, Ludwig imagined his palace as a giant stage that would allow him to recreate the world of Germanic mythology immortalised ...

Just like a fairytale

Another work conference for my parents brought us to Oberammergau for a week. We stayed in the cutest little wooden cottage - like the whole thing ceiling to floor and including flowering window boxes was made out of wood! Totally picturesque like you've read about in Brothers Grimm fairy tales. Aromatic town bakery. Absolutely enchanting.

On the Castle Tour

We went by car to Mittenwald and got at room at the Hotel Post. It was a nice room, but very narrow. It reminded me of a train compartment. There was a hail storm and it was rainy and cloudy. I bought ...
