... down the countryside became greener, and the livestock returned to sheep and cows. At a village called Gulpinar we stopped for icecream and some other supplies. We saw signs to one of the ancient sights situated in the village and went to visit it, the ruins of Apollon Smitheon, a 2nd century BC temple to Appolo and Smitheon (Lord of the Mice). ... borrow a couple of chairs and a small table and watch people pottering around. A man probably in his 40's stopped to talk to us, he works for Turkish Airlines and spoke good English, we chatted about the UK, which he knew all the airports! And our travel plans, he told us if we needed anything just ask as he was about all evening.
In the evening there was a party and disco close by,it was still going on as we went to bed, but fortunately it wasn't too loud and finished around ...

... and sugar and formed into blocks, we chose the chocolate one. We set off north heading for our next stop, we climbed quite high into the hills, we passed quite a few picnic sites along the way, but opted for a spot on a wide pull of at the top of the windy road. ... getting somewhere...oh no, the street turns into the bazaar! We force our way in past stalls of underwear, towels, handbags until we come face to face with a glass case full of donuts...this is actually a donut truck but driver cannot see us and keeps manoeuvring towards us. Men wave arms wildly, Ian hops out of the car to try to get direction, donut man keeps advancing, Michel and I crying in laughter as Ian jumps back into the car shouting ...

... During subsequent rulers additions were made to the castle and its grounds. The castle area is huge and it sits on a hill wilt a commanding site of the harbor. There is a large system of under-ground tunnels and a 4000 cubic meter cistern.

It was cool and very windy in Lesbos today, I guess an indicator of things to come. We had a very interesting visit though and we walked over two miles.
