... Napoli was dirty looking also. Got to Rome and found a hotel next to the Vatican wall. Kathy, Monty and I went into the Vatican. It was so busy, even an hour before closing. $16 euro each OMG the Pope must make a fortune. The multiple museums, the cistine chapel, the 16 other chapels, sculptures taken from around the world it was simply astonishing. If they sold it all it would feed the worlds starving 10 times over. Today we visit the Aeolian Islands, or in Italian: Isole Eolie. It's a group of 7 islands just to the north of Sicily. We will only be visiting 2 - Lipari and Vulcano. Nina, who speaks Spanish, hops into our car and directs us where to go. ...

... called Raccuja. It's a nice 40 minute drive from where we are staying. It's high on a mountain, but easily accessible on well paved roads. Our first stop is the municipality (aka Town Hall) where everybody is registered when born, married, and/or dies. We are able to get a photocopy of my fathers birth certificate! My father no longer has family actually living here but we enjoy strolling through the town and talking to people. He was 8 yrs old when he left Raccuja ...

... they are Unesco protected. Two of them have active volcanos, seems to be a pattern here in Sicily! We chose to visit and stay on Lipari for four nights. Lipari was settled in the 4th millennium BC, just a few years ago (right!). It was a perfect island visit, starting with renting the best little one room studio from the nicest man, Alfredo, that was so fitting for us...and happened to be accented in many blue colors, just like my imaginary paradise painting! It was right in ...
