Spending the night in Çanakkale

The name of this city is 'cha-KNOCK-KA-lay,' with a slight pause between 'k' sounds. The stress on the middle two syllables makes it sound vaguely Hawaiian. Our hotel was very close to the Dardanelles, and we could see a large WWII memorial across the water on the Gallipoli peninsula. See this site for one translation: http://www.turkishodyssey.com/places/ma rmara/marmara8.htm#CANAKKALE The photo album for this entry is just some shots we took in and around our hotel.

TURKISH DELIGHT

... in the room, but I'm also not the largest. And, after a few cursory glances from people checking out the new arrival, the other women go back to their sweating and lounging. Meanwhile, my Turkish mistress, grabs my thighs, flips me onto my stomach, rips open the disposable loofah and goes to work. It doesn't hurt a bit, in fact, it feels quite nice. I take a slap on my left butt check a few minutes later to mean I should turn ...

... Aya Sofya, but missed Yerebatan Sarayi, which Mr.Takeuchi, a Turkish lerner from Japan, mentioned later. All the museum and mosques were elegant with Islamic taste and I felt nostalgic for old backpacking in Southeast Asia. There were a lot of retired Japanese tourists indicating how popular the city was. After all the visits, I remembered something very famous in Turkey, Capadokia. I didn't know where it was and how I could get there. So I dropped by a TI near Sultan Ahmet ...

Then it was back to the marble slab to sweat out the oil and take in the beautiful experience a bit more. This experience was absolutely amazing and I recommend it to all...it was beautiful in its own way. Now that we were relaxed it was time to get dressed and rush to ...

... ate, I found a cute pair of earrings. The vendor only had one displayed and I said that if he had both, I would get them. He found both and they only cost me 3YTL. Not bad. Then we went back to the area with all of the street vendors. I love it! We got home around 11pm, went to sleep and woke up again around 3 for breakfast. BOY OH BOY, how I can't wait for a bowl of cereal with some delicious hormone injected, super processed, American milk.

... me, and they do . . .a little, but Istanbul endures. This place has been here a long time and will stand (maybe in a different form) after all of this ******** collapses. Powerful. We've been staying up pretty late most nights. Our view over the Bosphorus looks across to the Asian side of the city. We'll be heading east soon and are ready to travel. There was a mishap with the camera and hopefully it will return to us soon. Everyone likes pictures. Rick

Canakkale

... lunch at a local restaurant. I felt rather guilty by this stage as it seemed the whole trip was being organised around our family needs. Anyway, that's how it was. Pergamum was a powerful kingdom back in the 3rd century BC. It was here that 'parchment' was developed, a corruption of the name of the city. This was developed out of necessity when the Egyptians refused to trade any more papyrus. From parchment came the first known books. These were merely bundles of ...
