... Maples and plums. Autumn leaves not as evident as we are further south and not as cold yet, but Okayama does get some snow in winter. There is lots of water features, channels, ponds and lakes and it is all at varying levels which the engineer picked up and gave me a lesson in water hydraulics, water flow velocities, cumecs and that sort of stuff. For something finished in 1700, it is a pretty complex and smart piece of design.

... a town/city is not unusual. In the mountains the electricity towers are in the most rugged terrain and some are even right on top of the mountains. The sort of thing we would be horrified to see happen at home.

We got into Okayama at about 1:30 and found our hotel easy enough as it is directly opposite the train station. Our room is on the 16th floor with a great view of the Shinkasen trains coming and going. ...
