... of English. We drove for about a minuet before the car stopped and we all got out. I had no idea what was going on so I just followed everyone to a small boat which we all boarded. Kilian explained that the bridge was under construction so for the moment we had to go by sea to the house. The views from the boat were great but I'm not great with words so will let the pictures do the talking I arrived at the house just in time for "ocha time" ...

... like a flying heron. Inside the inner moat was a park where we sat and had a picnic before paying the entrance fee to go up to the castle tour. The main tower is closed currently for restorations but we were able to walk around the outer buildings with a volunteer guide who offered us a free English tour. He was very knowledgable and able to discuss the roles of the Samurai in the defence of the castle throughout its history. It added real ...

... crow castle' for its unusual black facade was very aesthetically pleasing. The same can be said for the gardens which has big wide open spaces and all the features of a traditional Japanese garden. After visiting Okayama, I headed on to Hiroshima on the slowest bullet train ever( nearly 2 hours for a 40 minute journey because of 20 minute stops at every station on the way!) Today I headed to himeji which is a town known for its huge castle, seen by many(and me) as the ultimate samurai castle. The main keep is said to resemble a bird taking flight due to its stretched white plaster walls and it overlooks a huge, heavily fortified complex with a labyrinth of passageways designed to confuse any enemies who breached the moat ...
