... one of both logs. Incredible how such a structure is able to carry not only its own weight, but also the weight of the thousands of visitors that walk inside it a every single moment. Lovely piece of engineering.


Next to the castle there is traditional Japanese garden which you can access for only 40 Yen (0,30 Euro). I really don't know which commercial nitwit came up with this pricing... Make it 100 Yen and you have increased ...

Hello all! Yes, today is my last day in Japan. Can you believe it has been a month and a half already?!?! I feel like I've been here for ages! Anyway I haven't done anything much today. I woke up early to start my last bit of laundry so that I could pack everything at once. Of course I had to figure out how to arrange my souvenirs and gifts so they can survive the long journey in my suitcase haha. Later I am going to eat REAL Ramen, not the instant Ramen ...

Japan is very expensive, so we relied heavily on 7-11s (and other similar convenience stores) for a lot of our meals. ... of the park grounds and the town of Himeji itself. Looking back toward the train station, we could clearly see the street leading to the castle was designed to be a grand promenade reminiscent of the street leading the Palace at Versailles (where we visited in 2014). Thankfully, climbing down the numerous levels in our bare feet did not prove hazardous (although we almost hit our heads on several of the low beams).

On the last leg of the train we exchanged smiles with a young girl who was dressed in full school uniform - on a Saturday! She was so keen to say hello to us that she kept shyly smiling and when it was her turn to get off the train, she madly waved to us as we passed by.
