Usually, one would go to bed early after having packed his luggage considering that one has planned a 24 hour trip to Africa the next day.
Well, I started my African experience in a slightly different way – I went out until 3 in the morning, just having 3-4 beers and surprisingly woke up the next morning with one of the worst hangovers of my entire life and my luggage still unpacked.
I managed ...
... boots off. After ten minutes outside, whatevery you were doing you could be sure that you would be plastered to your shirt and wishing you'd bought an umbrella to fend off the fierce sun... I found the irony rather amusing. All in all it proved a more agreeable option to sit genteelly in a sleek salooned taxi listening nonchalantly to whatever Asian music the Pakistani driver had quivering away in the background.
Dubai itself ...
Ajman is my 4th emirate today, and the highlight here is the visit to the interesting Ajman museum which was opened in 1981 in a lovely old eighteenth century fort which served as the Ruler's palace and office until 1970, when it became the main police station ...
Ajman, United Arab Emirates tom-of-boracay... there is some decent speed internet in Africa! I ended my day today by walking on the beach in the Persian gulf. Oh and I flew over Iran... It's been a crazy adventure. And I've only been away for 2 days! Anyways. I have a hot shower awaiting to wash away the sweat and sand of Dubai and prepare me for the more moderate heat of Kenya (with no AC). Wish I had time to write more, but my time is sadly up.... Love to you all... Kev
Dubai, United Arab Emirates kevinbogart... Vegas with endless shopping malls, and big resorts)....it's simple, building a city in the desert has its consequences with insane water and energy consumption. So, not our cup of tea....but we're glad to know what the buzz is all about.
Dubai, United Arab Emirates losbrowns... on the bus. After parting ways with my new travel companions, in a taxi ride that cost me 12drm (about $5) I soon found a park that had the many sky scrapers as a back drop. Zaabeel Park is what I had come across and although it is not yet finished, and the promise of a mini golf course that, to my disappointment, had yet been built, it was a very nice and relaxing park. Surprisingly green actually, hard ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates rosswilson82... in public. At sunset, Iftar occurs, which is the breaking of the fast, with dates and milk etc. Then there is an Iftar buffet, before Sahour, which usually goes from 8pm till about 2am. This is the time for nocturnal nibblings, shisha and socialising. NO ALCOHOL though. Most of the big hotel bar will ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates raniroo... my flight to London, passing over Ireland, France, Germany, Hungary, Romania, the Black Sea, and a whole lotta Turkey. After Turkey is where things got interesting, Initially we were scheduled to fly directly over Iraq, but I think because of Vice President Cheney's surprise visit to Bagdad all flights were slightly diverted, so we caught a nip of Northern Iraq and then pressed on over Iran. We got some amazing shots of an Iranian sun rise and the Zagros Mountains, which ...
In Transit, Dubai, United Arab Emirates midtowntsl0Woke Nathan at 8.30am and went for brekkie in the adjoining building. We passed on cornflakes but loved the pita bread with soft cheeses and honey. We went out the front and hopped on a bus heading for Bur Dubai area and hoped it would take us to the old area near the creek. We had been on the bus for an hour when I saw a sign for Dubai Museum where we ...
Dubai, United Arab Emirates hilaryramsey... plenty of Arabs in white robes and red checked cloths on their heads and women in black with their faces covered.
We arrived in Dubai at 9.30pm local time (12.30am Thai time). Dubai has a massive beautiful airport but it took us an hour to ...
