This morning we awoke with a start. We were due to be picked up for a tour of Dubai at 9.45am. The alarm on my watch was set for 7.30am but obviously we had slept through it. It was 9.20am. What to do? We quickly pulled on the clothes we wore the day before. No shower just a wash of the face, clean of the teeth, do of the hair, a scramble to leave the room reasonably organised, ...

We had a lovely buffet breakfast this morning. This is a top class hotel. After breakfast we headed for the tram and train to travel to Dubai's largest shopping centre. We exited the hotel via a rear tradesman's entrance, guided by a staff member, as it was closer to the tram station. The cost of our 2 return tickets to the shopping centre was 28 dirham for the 2 (about A$10 give or take). The staff at the station were very helpful but ...

... to the city and spend their money (Sorry Mom, IT'S WORKING!) and foreign investment. On our fifth day here, we went up to the viewing deck of one of these projects: the Burj Kalifa -- the tallest building in the world. Burj Kalifa is named after Sheikh Kalifa, "burj" translating to "tower." The elevator took us up 124 floors in 58 seconds, as we entered a lobby 452 meters above the ground. Walking out to the other side of a big revolving door put us on ...

... Auckland. The weather was pretty wild and windy when we arrived. Did not notice bumpy landing much in the large A380 plane though. Got bags ok however was a pretty long queue through customs and declaration. We made it through the green lane though so did not have to have bags further checked. Unfortunately at Melbourne they had checked hand luggage again and Craig realised he had a bottle of sunscreen in backpack ...
