What a day! First on the list was the Stanley Hotel. We took the tour and found out the hotel was where Stephen King was inspired to write The Shining, but none of the movie was filmed there. We got to see a few of the main rooms and learned about the twin brothers who built the hotel in 1907. It's supposedly haunted by several ghosts, and Jim Carrey was freaked out by the room he was in and left the hotel in the middle of the night.

Today Sheila and I traveled to Crested Butte, Colorado. While in Crested Butte, we did some shopping and had lunch. There were a lot of sales going on. I got a nice sweatshirt for $20. After shopping, we headed to Mount Crested Butte. Again, we arrived early. The ski lifts to take you to the top of the mountain don't open until this weekend. ... too soon and is sorely missed.

After walking through the sanctuary, Sheila and I headed back downtown to look at the shops - we didn't buy anything - all the stores were pretty high classed. Before leaving Aspen, we drove to the Ashcroft Ghost Town. In its heyday, this town was bigger than Aspen. Now it is a series of log cabin buildings. You can only imagine what life was in the town.

... snow views in a snowstorm - spectacular!!! This is the "Top of the Rockies", for Colorado anyway.

Then descended the other side, to Aspen. Elegant ski town, reminded us of Park City in Utah and Noosa in Qld. A guy we talked to told us the billionaires had pushed the millionaires out of Aspen!

After a walk around, drove up a beautiful red sandstone canyon to Ruedi Resevoir, outside Basalt. Lovely camp fire and great spot, so ...
