... as 1 country when it comes to Eurail, but he didn’t believe us and said we were going to have to buy a more expensive pass. We knew we were right, so had to wait 40 minutes for an internet café to open so we could print proof off the Eurail website. Then we had to wait another ½ hour to show the ticket man! He eventually sold us the right pass, but it was too late to go to Interlaken. We went into the city again and wandered around, took some photos, and I ...

Around town

I have had to work the last two days but I managed to leave a bit early today so I could talk my parents to the Van Gogh Landscapes exhibit at the Kuntsmuseum.

They have enjoyed wandering around Basel the last two days and are now in love with the city. We all really enjoyed the exhibit as well. We decided to go for the audio guides on top of the admission to the exhibit but it was a really great thing to have. The ...

... The street that winds behind the theatre past Atlantis to the Elizabethenkirche was shut down to traffic and absolutely overflowing with people. They were squeezed into nooks and crannies with their caipirinhas, cachaca, and beers. Holding the crowds from spilling over into the cross streets were booths selling trinkets and treasures from around the globe, food stalls of amazing variety, and ...

... ruins scattered throughout the area around the museum. We of course went straight for the large Roman theatre and then walked over to other nearby sites, including the temple facing the theatre, the main marketplace and town hall, a bakery, and the very interesting well house and bath house where you can go down into the well and look out to the bright sky high above.

All the walking combined with the heat had us pretty wiped out so we headed back to ...

Basel, Freiburg, Saarbrucken

For the rest of the field study we went to Basel, Switzerland and Freiburg and Saarbrucken Germany. They were all actually pretty similar. Nothing too exciting to tell, pictures tell all. We also went to the Maginot Line; the French defense line on the border with France. That was pretty cool to see the underground bunkers. :)

... sweet foods, but I manage to persuade/ make Pete buy 3 slices, just because it looked so nice. Lots of cream and cherries - it was great! We also managed to pick up some ripe plums off an old guy selling them in the market square, and they were the best plums I've ever tasted! Millie preferred them to the cake and I think she ate about 6 today! I forgot to write on our last blog about a walk we did in the Black Forest which was also next to ...

Back together in Switzerland!

After a month on our own journeys, we met up at the Euroairport on French lands, and then took a short bus ride (20mins) into Switzerland! The airport is shared between France, Germany and Switzerland because it is so close to the borders of all the countries. We tried to rack our brains for what little German we picked up last trip, but alas, it was buried deep. So luckily, the multilingual, friendly Swiss folk were eager and willing to help ...
