I realize I haven't updated in a while, so a brief update. After Siem Reap I flew to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. I spent half a day there in an excellent dorm planning my trip to South America. It was POURING rain so it was hard to feel up to going outside and doing stuff. Right before bed I realized my flight the next day was not in the afternoon as I thought but actually at 9:20 AM. In the last five metres the proportion of pressure change is the most so it is very important to Slowly Ascend From Every (SAFE) dive and to be breathing out during the ascent as the air in your lungs increases dramatically in volume. ... of the mountain, stretching all the way to Kota Kinabalu and the sea. Even though Mount Kinabalu is only 13,500 feet high, there is nothing of any significant height in the surrounding area so it truly feels as if you are on top of the world. That feeling alone made the whole hike worth it.
The second highlight was stopping to do a via ferrata on the way back down. A via ferrata is a cross between an extreme ropes course and ...

... and although spoke English kept themselves to themselves, which was ok and I quite accepted that, but I could see Wasif was struggling to try and make them interested. The heavens opened and it was a great to be in a jungle in the rain, sheltering with the monkeys! After 10 mins it stopped of course so we went back to the minibus. As Wasif and I walked together across the car park a spitting cobra started to cross our line of walking so we just stood ...
