Arrived home yesterday afternoon after a long day of travel. We left the ship in Amsterdam and 5:30 am (11:30pm Eastern). Because of fog in Paris we were delayed an hour, so instead of two hours to change planes we had about 50 minutes. We had to change terminals and of course go through security again. We got to the gate just as they were boarding. There is only one flight a day from Paris to Pittsburgh so I was REALLY glad ...

... about Fallingwater was the young, charming-yet-intensely-awkward teenage guide we had through the tour. He tried to tell jokes but he had an incredably flat tone of voice that his jokes just kinda hung there. He would take us to the next room in the house & then end his spiel saying "Any Questions?" in a challenging (yet flat) tone of voice that said you better not ask any questions.

... at Gettysburg (July 1 1863), painted in 1883 by Philippoteax, built in 1962, designed by the famous Richard Neutra on the site where the point of view was taken. This is a stunning public building for the 60s, and I was tortured to find out it had been replaced by a horrid red mc-american-walmart-sized-barn in a ditch, and they planned to demolish the masterpiece so as to free the viewpoint and battlefield.
