September 22nd Victoria Falls to Johannesburg
What a treat… a sleep in and a leisurely breakfast were enjoyed by all. After that we wandered about the grounds finding various birds, a monitor and a lizard and then did a bit of loafing about in arm chairs annoying 'Laine as she tried to write up yesterday's blog.
At the airport ...
... Chamber of Commerce, there were three ladies talking to us about how they got started and what each one of them do for the commerce. It was interesting to hear them talking about the process of getting customers and their plans to make South Africa a developed country. After talking to us about what they do, they took us out on the rooftop for a beautiful vew of the Johannesburg city skyline.
Our last morning in Johannesburg and off to Cape Town!! ...
... visions of the shanty town and squalid conditions we had seen depicted on TV but in reality we found a middle to upper middle class suburb of Johannesburg . Cindy explained that what we had seen were squatter areas, most of which had been cleaned up, and news journalists who were able to sensationalize stories by placing them in the worst areas. Hmmm.... (Blame it all on Pentravel!!)And then to add to the confusion - Mike (TS) and Dave got their cases muddled - Even with all these Happy Lands Pure Honey stickers dotted all over Mike's and my cases, this still happened!!! And Judy had her deodorant binned (!) We all had a wonderful time in the duty free shops and came out smelling of a mixture of Dolce Gabbana, Giorgio ...
... Safari Extraordinaire since it was such a good deal. To my surprise, everything was to the contrary. I figured our lunch would be at a local cafe with standard diner fare but instead, it was at a somewhat posh restaurant in a quaint town with really well presented food. I almost felt out of place considering my recent lifestyle. Randomly I believe the BBQ chicken salad I ate is what made me sick for two weeks (and counting) afterward, but that's beside the point. ...
