... tourism catered to in 'home-stay' accommodation. There is plenty of industry and commerce as well with people fixing, building, selling all manner of things. We stopped at a river-side cafe for some lunch and feared for our gastro-free record with no refrigerators visible anywhere. All good though––apart from the worst taste that I have EVER subjected my tongue to in the fish sauce (truly disgusting!)––but very much local cuisine without ...

I got a lot of great photos of local women who were manning all the stalls. Some posed for me but ...

... one that almost all the locals use, using his feet rather than his hands on the oars. The scenery from the river was stunning with an abundance of paddy fields with locals farming, all framed by impressive limestone cliffs. The following day we rented a couple of mopeds and explored the bustling main town area and the local countryside, once again taking in the beautiful views.

After two nights we jumped on the train and headed south 8 hours to Dong Hoi, a place that is not ...
