... water traffic at a row of crumbling, thousand-year-old palazzos. There is really nothing like it, and we deliberately did not mention it to the kids ahead of time, preferring to watch their reactions. Both Olivia and Elias had been getting psyched up for Venice in any case – any city where you can run all over the place without having to worry about traffic is a good one for kids – and we had a good time watching them picking ...

... canal stopping at every stop. We managed to snag an outdoor seat at the front of the boat ( the only time that happened) and took pictures of the gondolas and the beautiful buildings. On the canals, being their streets, you see ambulance boats, fire boats, police boats, taxis everywhere, as well as the commerce boats-the vegetable vendor where you could buy a fresh peach, etc. , the mail boat, all the delivery boats, even a UPS delivery boat. It made for ...

... convenient. We had time for a wander around a little of Venice before finding somewhere to eat. Found a little restaurant in a little back alley called Antico Panificio. It was very foggy when we left the next morning. We got the fast train first class to Milano Centrale Station. The fast trains can travel up to 200 km per hour. Almost too fast to look out the window and watch the scenery - at least for me! The trip took just over 2 hours. ...

... as we wanted on day one and then paid another $15 for the next day. We thought that it was very good value. We walked around the beautiful lanes and over lots of bridges over canals, watching the gondolas and speed boats winding their way through the water to their destinations. I love the spaghetti over here and have had quite a few meals of that. It is cooked quite differently to what we do at home. We went back to the ship about ...

... Art Festival - The focus of our trip :DAfter some time spent in the Bienalle gardens, it closed at 6pm so we made our way back towards the square. We walked right town the edge of the city before stopping for an Aperitivo (When in Rome!) We took a water taxi back to the bus station and settled ourselves on the edge of the grand canal with pizza and ice cream for dinner. I am going to have a tough time describing how beautiful it ...
