After our long day on the road we relaxed and watched TV to learn the sad news about the Air Asia air disaster. So very sad to learn about the results. Our hearts go out to the Indonesian people who have lost their loved ones.

In 1865, Confederate General Joseph Wheeler took his position in Aiken to oppose Union General Sherman's raid during the War Between the States. Sherman was defeated. For the past 20 years, the town of Aiken has reenacted this Battle of Aiken in February. It is supposed to be quite the event to watch.

We went to the golf course and I spoke to the security guard who was just inside the entry gates. He advised me very politely that I was trespassing and that I could take as many photo's as I liked as long as I was outside of the gates.

Augusta and the greatest jazz players of the day would play there when they were on the "Chitlin' Circuit", from 1932-1941. Niles Borop (born and brought up in Aiken) wrote, performed and produced over 4,000 pieces of music here. ... the Bartram Country Club and Mark showed us some of the local area sights including the gates of the beautiful Augusta National Golf Club and downtown Augusta, which is pretty cool.
This trip was a bit of a blast from the past and confirmed we can no longer hang with the big dogs and function properly. Back to the comfortable role of grandparents as we head north to spend couple of days with our son Shawn and his beautiful family in New Bern, NC.
