... go along ancient industrial train routes. They have the advantage to not be too steep neither in ascent nor descent. You may see remainders along the route. Quite some racing bikers use the track, the tarmac usually is in really good state.

The terminal building was where my Dad worked; the NAAFI is still there, as are the guardhouse, some married quarters, cinema and chapel, which is now a museum dedicated to the friendship between the local community and those who has served at Laarbruch. Dinner of kebabs for the girls was certainly less eventful, but as we returned to the hotel afterwards we found the square still occupied by the ambulance which had by then been joined by the police.
The girls went to bed and Mike and I, who didn’t feel like kebabs for dinner ducked downstairs for a bowl of minestrone and a glass of red wine.
