Last Full Day in Andorra

Today was my last full day in Andorra. There wasn't a huge amount to do. It wasn't snowing, but the wind was so fierce that it seemed like a sand storm made out of snow. I had a great time watching a group of cows grazing in snow up to their stomachs. Other than that I had a walk around town and spent about an hour at a ...

The Two Faces of Andorra

... top of the first mountain, he took a little nap while the bus waited for whoever might want to get on before the departure time. As we praddled along towards Canillo I mused about our heroic bus driver, and what he might be like. I supposed his salsa music puts him in the zone in the same was as listening to “Highway to the Danger Zone” made the guys from Top Gun fly well. Maybe when he got done with his route there were women in bikinis with ...

Change of Plans?

... What it does mean, we're not quite sure of yet. Still dealing with the shock and going over a few different options. All while kicking myself for not realizing this sooner. Only one thing is for certain - I'm not going to let this spoil our trip, and we're going to have to get cycling! (o.k., two things).
Then as they began to arrive it was a team effort to roll them into the barn and into place. The hardest part was rolling the bails up on top of one another to get as many into the barn as possible.

Haunted Nights

When we first arrived at Las Laous, we chose to ...

Brian had always been interested in butchering meat, so here was an opportunity to learn a bit.

The drive back from the abattoir was more difficult than I’d expected. Sitting beside 4, ½ pig carcasses was less than comfortable. +6 degree weather outside we still drove with the windows down and the A/C on trying to get the temperature down to 2 or 3 ...

... person above is literally in your hands.

All in all it was a fabulous day! Did 4 climbs in total ranging through the 5a, 5b, and 5c levels of difficulty. I wanted to try a 5, but the day went by too quickly. There was one climb that Brain was sweating out for quite awhile, but in the end his determination conquered it. Rock climbing is the perfect blend of challenge and rest in beautiful mountain settings. I may be hooked…

If you happen to wander in range they will bark furiously and give you many warnings to get away. If you don’t heed the warnings - you’re at your own risk with a fierce dog that comes up to your ...

... planting. The next night saw us competing, in the loosest sense of the word, in a quiz night organised by the hotel. Sufficed to say we didn't win. Or come particularly close. I mean really, how are you expected to remember anything about the 2003 Rugby World Cup? That was last year. One of the highlights of the week, however, was Friday morning when Luke, Jerry and I decided to go snowmobile racing. We were driven about 10 minutes up the mountain to a track. After ...

We didn't even have meters until the 60s and I bet its because we never had snow worth measuring. Or mountains. I mean, I know we have some, but to paraphrase my friend Lou: They're not very big are they? The nearest thing we have have down here in the south is Leith Hill. It's oooh, that close to the ...
