Last day in Cappadokia

... with the shafts of there dress opening. They move one position ahead and then the same is going on for 10-15 minutes always turning. http://www.neueakropolis.org/downloads/ 103_artikel03_tanzende_derwische.pdf The show ends and we are leaving impressed by the performance, which was mystic and fascinating. Not one word, no applause and the ceremony ends maintaining the spirit

Reunion with the new members

... we want to see the open air museum in Göreme. Unfortunately we arrive late and can only have a drink in town. We go back with a Dolmuş (these are small busses that connect throughout the country the different villages for almost nothing).

Our physical efforts we finish with a beautiful apero on the terrasse where the full moon is providing an excellent night panorama and then again a delicous dinner with some bottles of the good Cappadokian wine.

"Pide with cheese...and...WEDGE-IT-TABLES!"

... to an Aussie girl. We were all in a good mood and it was a good time, though my pool playing ability really really has disappeared over the years.

The place was great, but not perfect. The DJ, who I later found out was the Aussie wife, put on a mix of Nelly's "Country Grammer" (the best song ever written about drive by shootings...) and Lynard Skynard's "Sweet Home Alabama" (the best song ever written about being a Southerner...), in which the rap lyrics of Nelly ...

GOREME HOME TO THE FAIRY CHIMNEYS

... they are something like hoodoos) and the homes carved into the hillside. We arrive at Goreme and check into the Walnut hotel. The rooms are arches, small and the bathroom is even smaller. It is quite nice, the only thing I didn't like was they had put long carpets all down the stairs and the carpets were not tacked or held there in any way. I could picture the carpet slipping out from under my foot and sliding all the way down. We went out for a walk up ...

Underground cities and Mushroom Houses

... room where the mother weaves carpets and things, and a bedroom that everyone shares. There were lots of photos on the walls of Ataturk, who is the first president of Turkey, Levent says that almost everyone in Turkey has a photo of him in their house, even Levent! I also rode a Turkish camel, which is still a dromedary, but is much bigger and more muscular than the camels in Morocco. Dad, Lu, and I rode it together - it was cool. He had a ladder for us to get ...

The fairy castles of Cappadocia.

... quiet and that is because they are so heavily policed that there is no room for riots. We knew before we got to Turkey of the bombings in Istanbul and the kidnap of the German tourits in the east of Turkey where we have been and now Georgia is being bombed. If I had taken out odds of that happening with William Hill on a sort of roll up or whatever they call it I could have earned myself a pretty penny to go somewhere more peaceful next time! I think when ...

Hot Air Ballooning and Overnight buses

... s not super conducive to sleeping....plus I am always slightly paranoid, so Lauren slept while I watched our stuff. At one point, I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore, but was in desperate need of a pillow. We didn't have pillows or blankets and our luggage was buried deep underneath the bus....so, at one of the stops, I improvised and bought a medium sized teddy bear that turned out to be the perfect pillow (we still have him).

A cultivation of friendship

... Kapadokia... a land where numerous civilizations have eeked out a living... most interestingly, the early christians that hid in the hills... burrowing underground and inside of strange volcanic formations, carving out homes, stables and churches, in order to survive and practice their faith without persecution and death... A few days later ...

Cappadoccia: Land of the Disobedient Horses.

... photos and Ship Shake kept turning around and trying to follow our guide's horse. Der - they are trail horses. But our guide was a bit dopey and wasn't able to pre-empt his customers needs - he kept moving his horse. We also had the two ranch dogs, an Alsatian and a white fluff ball following us and nipping at the horses heels for fun every now and then. My horse was giving me the ***** by the end of the two hour trail. At one stage it took off beside a ...

... Open Air Museum, which is an area with many very old (10th century) churches built into the caves and walls as most things are in this region. After that, we walked back into town (only 1 km), had some Turkish pizza and caught the local shared bus back to the pension where we each finished our first books of the trip and just relaxed. After another great 4-course meal, Turkish cuisine (which is really quite good) this time, we went to bed early ...
