It was raining today and really cold so we took in the local museum full of Roman antiquities found in recent local excavations, it was small but still astounding that it was over 2000 years ago and they were so civilised. We had a turn up and down the Corso and then went for lunch at the highly anticipated Da Gino, it is only open for lunch and didn't disappoint. We took a little more care than yesterday ...

... for Madonna, the singer, not the virgin! It was so cold so we had the old 13th C town to ourselves and a few curious locals. We wandered over the ruins of the old castle, took in wonderful views in time for our reservation for lunch. We weren't given a menu at Taverna Caldora, it was all fresh from the kitchen, we had baccala with a light pesto, fried lamb with marinated vegetables and potato, fresh goats curd and heaps of bread, this was followed by ...

For a little variety and to remind ourselves of why we left the cold for winter we caught the 3.5hr train trip through Tivoli to an old country town Sulmona, the birth place of Ovid the Roman Poet. Armed with maps and directions we walked around the 13th C town with narrow streets and charmingly old views all around. Snowmelt was dripping ...

... Ahem.  Yes, you read that right.  Difference number three - no more cabins with only a bed in them for me!  We had a couple of hours to settle in before dinner prepared for us by the hotel staff.  Each lunch and dinner consisted of pasta (prima) and meat (seconda), as well as dessert (dolce).  Sense the theme in Italy?  My favorite of all the meals was our last lunch before leaving for home - fresh homemade lasagna.  Mmm! ...

... much to do for nightlife. Yet thats what made the trip wonderful because I often found myself on a massive beach with maybe only one or two more people on the entire thing with me! So considering the craziness and noise of my normal domicile in Rome, this was certainly an awesome experience.

Thanks for reading and enjoy the pictures. GOD BLESS!
