Malta. A spectacular fortified harbour! The island is small but would warrant another visit. A tour of Valletta via horse and cart, ticked that box. Went to another walled town, Mdina, which gave great views. We toured the dungeons which was kind of corny but fun and gave grisly history of all the people who have ruled Malta, each with their own personal touch regarding punishment and torture. ... the campanile was still scaffolded at the top. The interior is Romanesque and very large, a beautifully painted ceiling and altar but quite plain other wise. Near the Treasury there is a display case with an elaborate Nativity Scene, similar to one in Amalfi this must be a local tradition. Today we were on a tour of Taomorina, Sicily. It was beauiful sailing into the port, with mainland Calabria on one side of us and Sicily on the other. At 7:30AM we passed the island of Stromboli with it's active volcano, which is supposed to be great to see at night, but I was sound asleep, after being awake for most of the night.
