... the Messina Strait, between Sicily and the tip of the boot of Italy. Gorgeous place to pass, very picturesque.

Gary and I had dinner in the main dining room in the first evening, followed by a round of 50’s and 60’s music trivia. We caught a show in the theatre, Soul Sensation who were quite entertaining.

Today was more of the same but warmer. Sun, reading, eating, a drink here ...

We had our 'usual' breakfast of parfait and eggs benedict, along with the obligatory pastry. We had seen Mt Stromboli (an active volcano) ahead of us before we went, but it went past more quickly than we expected and was behind us when we returned to the room. Not a major for us but I did regret the timing for our friends.

... rim of Mount Eta which is an active volcano and had its last eruption in the 1990s. However we were assured that it was safe as the volcano is currently quiet. We didn't go to the top because it takes about 3 hrs to get up there on cable car and 4 wheel tractor, but walked to one of the lower rims. Amazing landscape with black earth and lots of pumice stone laying around. At a nearby cafe they gave us cannoli to sample ...
