Today was going to be all about the Florentine Renaissance!!! Uffizi Gallery and Academia on the schedule!!! But first, pastries and Internet! Blaine had a huge estimate to do and we were hungry! (Not sure why, all we do is eat!) After walking for about 25 minutes, we settled for pastries but no Internet. We tried this breakfast calzone thing too... So good. ... s birthday gift :). However, just finding a place to stay was an adventure in itself. As you know, the day we left for Florence, our wifi was out so we honestly had no idea where we were going to stay our first night. On the train a group of 8 American girls from Cal Poly Pomona sat next to us and started chatting us up. We got talking and asked them where there was a good place to spend the night. They told us about a clean, safe, and affordable hostel that they recommended ...
... was 1 block down and 1/2 block to the right. The road was under construction to get to the hotel so we just left the car and walked.
Once settled in, we walked to the church (Duomo) which was amazing. See pictures. Next it was to the Statue of David and again it was an amazing plaza.
Tomorrow its off to Rome and getting rid of the car. Rah Rah!!!!!!!!!!!!!
... which was a scenic trip past elegant old Villas, olive groves, and other "classic Tuscan scenery. I had to stand for most of the trip as there were no seats. I didn’t check the Guidebook until after I arrived, but apparently that Bus has a reputation for pickpockets (thankfully I didn’t have any problems).
