    ... progressed.

Our accommodation was quite close to the start of the hike to the crater of Stromboli. We thus had brilliant views of the volcano and enjoyed endless views of the ash and smoke pouring out of the top. We could even clearly hear the rumblings. Tonight was my favourite dinner of our trip so far as we enjoyed take-out pizza sitting in the central courtyard of our accommodation looking at the volcano. I told Mum and Dad that ...

My reason for considering Sicily as a possible destination during my long holiday can be entirely attributed to Montalbano, the quirky police series we stumbled upon on SBS a few years ago. It looked Meditteranean but a bit wilder and less touristy than France or Italy. I mentioned Sicily to Helen Drennen (my ...

Sunday 18th May A fine day again &
after breakfast we set off in Freya's car to see Gubbio a walled town to the north east of Perugia.
Unfortunately the place was absolutely full & there was nowhere to park so off we went to Montone, a walled village high in the hills. This was a beautiful place still largely unspoilt although it has been heavily restored.
