Pottered about the little town of Pella near to where we are staying. Sat on wooden bench on quayside scoffing a gelato each like oldies do apparently. Delightful. Have now planned next step over the Simplon pass to stay in a small hotel in Chamonix, hoping to see Mont Blanc before the weather closes in. From there working our way back to the channel coast over 4-5 days. All fine and jalopy holding up so far - touch wood. Love to you all again. ...

... was OK and the food and wine was great but getting back was interesting. Fortunately, one of us had remembered her head torch and we successfully found what turned out to be the steepest flight of steps I can remember in the the pitch dark. The sort of steps where the ground seems to be about six inches from one's nose. Having a ball and weather still kind to us! Love to you all. ...

Going to try harder than last attempt in Predore to get the ferry times right tomorrow to explore the lake. Here until Mon then probably crossing back into Switzerland and France over the Simplon Pass. Love to all. ...

Until last night when Ian was reading some tourism literature I don't think any of us realised that they grow rice in Italy but today we have cycled through mile after mile of the stuff, interspersed with the odd patch of maize or other crop. It doesn't seem to be flooded like the paddies I have seen in Nepal but there is an extensive system of irrigation channels.
We were under way around 08:00 this morning. On the whole the roads have been a ...

      Vercelli, Lake Maggiore

A travel blog entry by downer on Sep 04, 2014

A visit to Milano to have the motorhome alarm fixed. We stayed at this campsite last September so know it well, a lovely campsite on the waterside. Tia has already had a swim chasing the ducks as we got bitten by Mosquitos... Weather not as good here so we think we will about turn and will head back down towards Genova and continue on our travels down the West Side of Italy... Hopefully starting in Pisa. Lots to see and ...
