This morning we all had a big sleep in until 8am (shock & awe)!! It was about 10am when we drove out over the eastern hills to Stresa, on the western edge of Lake Maggiore. Again we boldly followed our car's satnav (who I call Doris because of her accent) but this time she led to the centre of town through a walled lane that gave us 1-2 cm clearance either side of the car. At least this time we were going in the correct direction on the ...

We had breakfast out before we took a ferry across the lake to Pella on the western shore. After exploring the streets for a while, we were ferried back to the island in the middle of the lake, Isola San Giulio. Here the old buildings were immaculately preserved but the centre piece was the church. Its origins date back to 1023AD, but more recent ...

I realised it was the instructor probably saving my life. That's cool. Hahahaha! There were more drops and one that was so big we had to all sit in the middle of the boat. It became full of water and my body was so cold and numb by this stage. Hahahaha!

Eventually, it came to an end. I was really sad to get out. :( The ...

... the clear weather. However the Sunday traffic along the lakefront was very heavy so our progress into Italy was challenged. As a result we arrived late at Orta San Giulio. The apartment is on the oldest street in the town so the externals are rustic and the internals are "different" but still very comfortable. We have a lake view with mezzanine bedrooms accessible by a spiral staircase. After a ristorante meal we crashed for the ...

I've found in the little time i've been here that the streets of italy look very similar. This is very bad. Attempting to venture out into the big wide world has found me stuck, confused, and very disorientated. However, although this could be alarming and stressful for some i find it very interesting as i discover the little treasures Italy has to bring. Biella is picture perfect, exactly what you'd find in a travel book. But with the addition of snowy mountains surrounding ...
