... and the relative proximity of the end-of-day destinations.

Please don't let me give you the impression it was not enjoyable to walk through the valley. The scenery was spectacular and often there was a lovely breeze, particularly near the valley bottom.

Another thing I liked about this area is the fact the Aosta valley is an autonomous region that is bilingual in Italian and French. Don't ask me why it is, but the benefit for me was that I could ...

These cows were covered in mud and looked miserable, sadly. We did have a yummy dinner at the Bianco in Cavagalia. The waitress gave us tastings of the first course which made for a great experience . Rebecca and I walked home. The temperatures don't seem to drop much at night. I may just go and have a cold shower before bed so that I can ...

    Lake Orta

... it rained so hard that the mud from the ground splashed up onto everything except the washing!

We headed over the mountain to Lake Orta and the little traffic-free town of San Giulio, referred to as the "pearl" of the lake by my guidebook. Plentiful parking is up the hill from the town and its a 10 min stroll down; for those who don't want (or can’t do) that, the mini-trenino does the job ...
