Time has come for me to leave, I need to get back on the road and start travelling again and see some more of Aus.
Tomorrow I WILL check out and hitch north to Rockhampton, I just hope I can find a lift and YES I have seen Wolf Creek.
... Anyway it also twigged that the more I paddle even when I thought it was time to stand throw in a few more and it massively increased the times I was able to stand and ride the wave. I spoke later with one of the instructors and he agreed, saying that as there's less board for the wave to grab hold off and carry it into the beach you have to paddle harder to get it up to speed with the wave. Don't get me wrong I still fell off a few times but so did the local dudes who ...
Agnes Water, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... 40 each for a 2 hour lesson and the clock started as soon as we were picked up, so a much better deal here. Laura was still a bit ache and wanted to sit on the beach and relax instead. So the main instructor said that if I wanted to just go straight in the water and go for it myself or I could sit and listen to his way of doing things. I went for the latter as I thought its always good to hear someone else's way of doing things ...
Agnes Water, Queensland, Australia gaz-lj... the newspaper had been on that site since 1862 but this building was much newer! There were two fine heritage-listed hotels/inns but both had been allowed to place big new signs detracting from the otherwise splendid appearance (one also had a series of ill-judged extensions for off-sales and a motel which are best left un-investigated)
Rocky, as it is known locally, prides itself on being the ’Beef Capital of Australia’ and therefore promised us a ...
i arrived really early in the town of 1770 as my bus left rocky at 5.45am, getting up early isnt part of holiday but hey there seems to be plenty of it here stupid buses. i spent the day by the pool and chatting to people i keep bumping into in different towns

... little car park was the exact spot where Captain cook first moored when he arrived on these shores and there was a monument to commemorate it. 1770 looked even nicer by day and we saw the actual size of the houses, they were more like mansions really. We had a quick walk around the beach and harbour, took a few photos before setting off on the road again.

He glided past me, sucker fish on tow, and I followed him across the reef, then a while later he swam right up to my face before turning and swimming into the shallows at the last second. I’m yet to develop the pictures from my underwater camera but am very excited to see if the shots are as impressive at the real thing was! Last for me to snorkel stalk was a white tip reef shark skulking along the bottom, who I followed for a while as he was only a baby and didn’t look ...
Agnes Water, Queensland, Australia flagwavingpomOn Wednesday 24 May 1770, Lieutenant James Cook anchored the Endeavour about 3 km off this part of the coast. No prizes for guessing how the town got it's name.
Cook wrote: 'In this place there is room for a few ships to lie in great security, and a small stream of fresh water'. They noted many pelicans and, upon the shore, a species of bustard, one of which was shot. They considered it the best bird they had eaten since leaving England, and in honour of it they called the inlet Bustard Bay.
... of here. We first stopped off at Hervey Bay to pick up and drop off some people, wasnt much to see. Then we went to Bundaberg - home of sugar cane and rum - for lunch. We drove past a town called Gin Gin which I very much wanted to stop at but it wasnt an option. Somehow I think there wouldnt be much gin there, no matter what the name meant. Although if a name is repeated, it means many in aboriginal - so maybe there would be many gin! Oh well. I'll ...
Agnes Water, Queensland, Australia wollifer... itching to get in. At first we took a quick walk on the island - which is formed entirely of dead coral and home to a number of white capped noddies and also some huge blue orb spiders (thankfully not poisonous!) We saw a number of turtle tracks - the island is a popular spot for laying eggs. We headed back to the pontoon, seeing some stingrays and also the shadow of a reef shark. Then the reallty fun part. We got kitted out and headed to the ...
