Today was our last day in Japan...we spent it trying to see more of Tokyo. We aren't terribly interested in modern cities so we hired a guide to take us around to some of the older sites here. Our guide was Richard, a Japanese born, half-Japanese half-English young man. He did a great job and we also got to talk about the cultures of our two countries.

We started off at the Meiji Jingu ...

... head back to the hotel and chill before we went out tonight, we were going to be going out early because I read that the best time to spot a geisha girl is just before it gets dark; however when we got back to the room and I checked the Internet a little more thoroughly almost every site that I trawled through said it was really difficult to spot a working geisha in Tokyo and that a 2 hour tour of a tea house and entertainment of a ...

... in Google Maps once again we headed down a few different little side streets until we found ourselves at Harajuku Taproom which seriously looked like it could have been plucked right out of Portland or Denver. The inside was covered with beer cans and bottles from all over the world and as we perused the menu and tried to decide which of their beers to try we spotted several Oregon and Colorado beers that had made the cut on the walls. Their beers were actually really ...

... All the hotel guests sported the traditional yukata robes you see in the pictures in between relaxing soaks in the springs.

I spent my last day in Tokyo visiting the impressive Mejji Shrine and surrounding forest. You can see in the pictures how huge the shrine gates (torji) are! It really is impressive how this enormous, peaceful, and forested area is in the middle of a bustling shopping area. And shop, I did, at the nearby Oriental Bazaar. :)
